How much do technical mining jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 11, 2026, the average yearly pay for technical mining in the United States is $156,348.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $116,000.00 and $205,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is the highest paying job in mining?

In mining, the highest paying roles are often senior engineering positions such as Mining Engineers, Geologists, or Mine Managers, especially those with extensive experience and specialized skills. These roles typically require advanced certifications, leadership abilities, and knowledge of safety regulations, and they can command six-figure salaries depending on the project size and location.

What jobs make around $100,000 a year?

In technical mining, roles such as mining engineers, geologists, and project managers often earn around $100,000 annually, especially with experience and certifications. These positions typically require specialized skills, knowledge of mining operations, and familiarity with industry tools and safety standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Technical Mining position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Technical Mining, you need a strong background in mining engineering, geology, and data analysis, often supported by a degree in mining engineering or related fields. Expertise with mining software (such as Surpac, MineSight, or Vulcan), GIS applications, and familiarity with safety regulations and possibly certifications like the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, teamwork, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for coordinating technical projects and working across multidisciplinary teams. These competencies ensure optimized mining operations, regulatory compliance, and safe, efficient extraction of resources.

What is a Technical Mining job?

A Technical Mining job involves applying engineering, geological, and technological principles to optimize mining operations. Professionals in this field focus on mine planning, design, safety, and efficiency, using software and data analysis to improve extraction processes. They work closely with geologists, engineers, and operational teams to ensure sustainable and profitable resource recovery.

Will AI replace mining engineers?

Mining engineers are responsible for designing and managing extraction operations, and AI can assist with data analysis, planning, and automation. However, the expertise, problem-solving, and decision-making skills of mining engineers remain essential, and AI is more likely to augment their work rather than replace them entirely.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities in a Technical Mining position?

As a Technical Mining professional, your daily responsibilities often include analyzing geological data, developing and optimizing mine plans, and ensuring that extraction methods are both cost-effective and safe. You may work closely with engineers, geologists, equipment operators, and health and safety teams, providing technical guidance and support throughout various project phases. The role frequently involves using specialized software to model reserves, evaluate project feasibility, and generate detailed reports. Collaboration and adaptability are essential, as shifting site priorities or unexpected challenges may require quick technical reassessments and cross-disciplinary teamwork.

What are the 4 types of mining?

In the field of technical mining, the four main types of mining are surface mining, underground mining, placer mining, and in-situ mining. Each type involves different techniques and equipment depending on the mineral deposit and environmental considerations. Mining professionals often need knowledge of these methods to select appropriate extraction strategies and ensure safety and efficiency.
