Overview:
The Technical Director for MuleHide is responsible for leading all technical functions across the organization, including technical administrative services, technical field services, warranty and claims support, codes and approvals, specification and systems development, and quality assurance.
This role reports directly to MuleHide's Managing Director and serves as the senior technical authority, accountable for protecting the company's technical integrity, reducing warranty risk, ensuring code compliance, and supporting sustainable growth.
The Technical Director works closely with product management, sales, marketing, and other MuleHide leadership to ensure roofing systems are technically sound, installable, code-compliant, and consistently supported in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Governance:
  • Serve as MuleHide's highest-level technical authority on low-slope roofing systems, assemblies, details, and warranty requirements
  • Establish and enforce consistent technical standards, interpretations, and best practices across all regions and technical personnel
  • Provide strategic technical direction aligned with MuleHide's growth objectives, product roadmap, and risk-management priorities
  • Provide director-level oversight of the technical field organization, including inspection quality, workload management, documentation standards, and regional consistency
  • Act as senior technical advisor to the warranty and claims teams on complex, escalated, or high-risk projects
  • Support root-cause analysis of failures and systemic issues impacting warranty exposure
  • Ensure alignment between field inspections, warranty language, and claims outcomes
  • Direct all codes, approvals, and third-party testing activities for MuleHide roofing systems and assemblies
  • Oversee relationships with organizations such as UL, FM, ICC, state and local code bodies, and third-party testing laboratories.
  • Ensure MuleHide maintains current and competitive approvals that support sales across all regions and jurisdictions
  • Partner with product management to ensure new products and systems are technically viable, code-compliant, and field-ready prior to launch
  • Provide technical input on system design, details, specifications, and installation requirements
  • Support sales and marketing with high-level technical guidance, complex project support, and competitive positioning when required
  • Promote a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement

Quality Assurance & Risk Management:
  • Establish metrics and reporting related to inspection quality, warranty trends, and technical performance
  • Proactively identify technical risks and implement mitigation strategies
  • Serve as a key leader in protecting the MuleHide brand through sound technical decision-making

Leadership & Team Development:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop technical managers and senior technical staff across multiple disciplines
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and succession planning for critical technical roles
  • Foster collaboration between technical teams and other company leadership while maintaining technical independence and integrity

Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in the commercial low-slope roofing industry. Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership experience overseeing technical teams or programs
  • Deep knowledge of roofing systems, assemblies, details, inspections, warranties, and building codes
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with executives, sales leadership, contractors, and external agencies
  • Experience working with UL, FM, and other third-party testing facilities
  • Ability to travel 10% - 15% of the time
  • Industry certifications (RRC, RRO, PE, or equivalent) a plus
