Position Summary...What you'll do...As a Distinguished Technical Program Management for Colony Platform in the AI & Data organization, you will play a critical role in operationalizing AI and data-driven priorities by bridging strategic intent, engineering execution, and enterprise stakeholder alignment. You will drive clarity, sequencing, risk identification, and delivery excellence for complex, cross-functional programs that enable Walmart’s AI/ML platforms and capabilities at scale.  This is an individual contributor role focused on technical program leadership, execution rigor, and impact — not direct people management. About AI & Data Walmart’s AI & Data organization is building platform capabilities and enterprise services that accelerate the journey from idea to AI-powered solution safely and cost-effectively for builders across the enterprise. This includes foundational data platforms, ML infrastructure, AI productization, governance, and Associates builder solutions that enable millions of associates, and data practitioners. What You’ll Do Technical Program Leadership
  • Lead and coordinate complex, multi-team programs with significant cross-functional dependencies, ensuring predictable delivery and transparency.
  • Define program goals, key milestones, schedules, and risk mitigation plans for platform and services investments.
Translate Strategy into Execution
  • Partner with product, engineering, data science, AI governance, and enterprise strategy teams to translate strategic priorities into executable work plans.
  • Surface trade-offs, dependencies, and technical constraints to stakeholders to inform sequencing, scope, and resourcing.
  • Convert ambiguous business goals into clear, measurable deliverables and execution roadmaps.
Cross-Functional Alignment
  • Build trusted partnerships across engineering, product, data science, platform teams, and senior leadership.
  • Coordinate with technical leaders to resolve blockers, align priorities, and surface risks early.
  • Drive alignment across distributed teams through shared processes, metrics, and communication rhythms.
Executive-Ready Communication
  • Prepare structured, compelling narratives and presentations for executive audiences, highlighting risks, opportunities, decisions, and outcomes.
  • Translate complex technical considerations (architecture trade-offs, capacity constraints, deployment risk) for both technical and business stakeholders.
Program Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Establish execution standards, reporting frameworks, and program governance mechanisms that scale across AI and platform initiatives.
  • Mentor and influence TPMs and senior technical contributors in best practices for planning, estimation, and delivery discipline.
  • Proactively identify areas for process optimization and repeatable excellence.
What You’ll Bring Minimum Qualifications
  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.
  • Option 2: 7 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.
  • Proven track record driving complex, enterprise-scale, cross-functional technical programs with measurable outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of engineering concepts, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, APIs, and technical execution trade-offs.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with experience creating executive-ready materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority and drive alignment across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in Project Management.
  • Experience with AI/ML systems and/or platform delivery (AI pipelines, model serving, real-time systems).
  • Experience mentoring TPMs or technical leaders in execution discipline and program governance.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and rapidly evolving technical environments.
  • Certification in technical program or project management (e.g., PMP, PgMP) or related credentials.
Success in This Role Looks Like
  • Clear visibility into program execution and technical risk across prioritized AI and platform initiatives.
  • Early identification and mitigation of dependencies and constraints.
  • Strong stakeholder trust and alignment on program outcomes.
  • Deliverables that meet quality, performance, and adoption expectations.
  • Operating practices that scale repeatable excellence across TPM efforts.
Why This Role Matters The Principal of Technical Program Management will be instrumental in ensuring that strategic AI & Data objectives translate into concrete, reliable outcomes. By enabling clear execution pathways, trusted technical recommendations, and rigorous delivery standards, this role will accelerate Walmart’s ability to innovate, operationalize, and scale AI-powered solutions enterprise-wide.
