Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Junior Systems Engineer to join our team! In this role, you will serve as the engineering team's documentation lead, translating complex system designs, configurations, and operational procedures into clear, accurate, and customer-ready technical manuals and engineering documentation. You will work side by side with network, cloud, and systems engineers supporting a classified hybrid environment spanning on-premises infrastructure and cloud environments, ensuring every system we field is fully documented from concept through sustainment.
This is a hands-on engineering role with a documentation focus. You will need to understand the systems well enough to operate them, then capture that knowledge in artifacts that operators, administrators, and government customers rely on every day.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Author, edit, and maintain technical manuals, operator guides, administrator guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and deployment plans for on-premises and cloud-hosted systems
  • Develop and maintain system design documents, as-built documentation, interface control documents (ICDs), configuration baselines, and network/system architecture diagrams (Visio or equivalent) in support
  • Translate engineering into clear, standardized documentation suitable for government review and acceptance in support of requirements validation and approval to operate
  • Develop installation guides, runbooks, recovery procedures, and troubleshooting guides supporting day-to-day operations and continuity of operations (COOP)
  • Establish and enforce documentation standards, templates, version control, and review workflows across the engineering team
  • Participate in design reviews, test events, and configuration control boards (CCBs) to capture changes and keep documentation current with the fielded baseline
  • Verify documented procedures hands-on in lab and production environments to ensure technical accuracy
  • Manage documentation within the program's approved repositories (e.g., SharePoint, Confluence), which may include on classified networks

What Required Skills You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline; additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • 5+ years of systems engineering or related IT experience, with demonstrated experience producing technical documentation for complex IT systems
  • Exceptional technical writing skills with the ability to convey complex technical material clearly and concisely for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Working knowledge of Linux (RHEL) environments, virtualization, cloud computing, and TCP/IP networking sufficient to accurately document system behavior
  • Experience creating architecture and network diagrams using Microsoft Visio or similar tools
  • Active TS security clearance with SCI eligibility, may require a polygraph

What Desired Skills You'll Bring
  • CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent or ability to obtain within six months of hire
  • Experience documenting systems in accordance with DoD or IC documentation standards and data item descriptions (DIDs)
  • Familiarity with Government cloud environments
  • Experience working in SCIF or other classified/air gapped environments
  • Familiarity with configuration management practices and tools (Git, SharePoint versioning, Confluence)
  • Experience with structured authoring or documentation toolchains (MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, Markdown/AsciiDoc)
