Position Summary


The Senior Accountant plays a key role in delivering assurance, accounting, tax, and advisory services to a diverse client base. This position is ideal for a motivated CPA or CPA candidate looking to take the next step in their career.

Key Responsibilities


Assurance & Accounting

  • Lead audit, review, and compilation engagements from planning through completion.
  • Prepare and review financial statements and related disclosures in accordance with ASPE and ASNPO.
  • Identify, research, and resolve complex accounting and assurance issues.
  • Communicate engagement progress, findings, and recommendations to management and clients.
  • Travel as required to complete fieldwork within and outside of Central Alberta.


Tax & Compliance

  • Prepare and review corporate and personal income tax returns.
  • Oversee compliance requirements including GST filings, payroll reporting, T4s, T5s, and other government remittances.
  • Assist clients with tax planning and compliance matters.


Client Service & Advisory

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and build strong professional relationships.
  • Analyze financial information and provide meaningful business insights.
  • Support clients in improving internal processes, systems, and financial reporting practices.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and other client deliverables.


Leadership & Team Development

  • Supervise, coach, and mentor junior team members.
  • Review staff work and provide constructive feedback.
  • Support training initiatives and contribute to the professional development of the team.
  • Foster a collaborative, positive, and high-performing work environment.


Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in firm initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, quality, and client service.
  • Contribute ideas and recommendations that support the firm's continued growth and innovation.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA designation, or nearing completion of the CPA program.
  • 3-5 years of progressive public practice experience in Canada.
  • Experience leading or assisting with assurance engagements.
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE, ASNPO, Canadian Auditing Standards, and Canadian tax compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with Caseware, ProFile, QuickBooks, Sage, and Microsoft 365.
