Technical Market Data Analyst
Dow Jones is seeking a technically-driven Market Data Analyst to join the team powering world-class financial data across The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, MarketWatch, Investor's Business Daily, and our B2B products.
In this role, you will be the guardian of our market data integrity. You will oversee the end-to-end quality of consumer-facing data, validating and refining inputs from diverse global sources to ensure we publish only the highest-standard information. You will act as a vital link between the newsroom and technology, providing data-driven research for reporters while collaborating with product teams to build the next generation of financial tools.
Key Responsibilities
  • Data Stewardship & Publication: Ensure third-party feeds are timely, complete, and accurate. Own the end-to-end process of aggregating, validating, and publishing multi-sourced financial data, ensuring every data point meets rigorous, publication-grade quality standards before reaching our global audience.
  • Integrity & Resolution: Proactively identify data anomalies; investigate root causes and utilize data integrity tools to remediate errors in real-time.
  • Editorial Support: Provide specialized, high-stakes research to reporters and editors to ensure the statistical integrity of financial news stories.
  • Tooling & Automation: Design and implement automated validation processes (SQL/Python) to streamline research workflows and maintain specialized Excel-based tools.
  • Product Collaboration: Execute functional testing for data-driven product updates and serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for escalated customer inquiries.
  • Knowledge Leadership: Facilitate hands-on training for new staff and contribute to strategic, cross-departmental market data initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Market Fluency: Strong foundational knowledge of global financial markets (Equities, Fixed Income, FX, etc.) and a drive to stay ahead of market trends.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in SQL and Python for data automation, alongside VBA for the maintenance of legacy Excel tooling.
  • Analytical Rigor: Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to gather and interpret complex datasets under tight deadlines.
  • Platform Expertise: Professional experience with market data terminals such as FactSet, LSEG Workspace (Refinitiv), or Bloomberg.
  • Communication: Ability to translate complex data issues into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders in the newsroom and product teams.
Preferred Experience
  • 0-2 years of experience within financial services, fintech, or financial news.
