Job description

SUMMARY: The Technical Publication Specialist is responsible for supporting the engineering function in controlling, tracking, reviewing, technical editing, and establishing technical reports, brochures, and/or manuals for internal documentation, customer reference, or external publication.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Create, maintain, and manage a documentation system which classifies and organizes technical publications for systematic user access and tracking.
  • Classifies and codes technical documentation.
  • Communicates and provides training to technical publication content providers on system access, design, and objectives.
  • Communicate documentation status to management and team members.
  • Controls and organizes technical publications and content material submitted for creating or editing new or existing technical documentation.
  • Establishes timelines for content input and follow-up with content providers to ensure timely publication of technical documentation. Edits and completes writing assignment according to a set of standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology, may maintain records and files of work and revisions, may select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material, assist in laying out material for publication, and arrange for typing, duplication, and distribution of material.
  • Incorporate content into documents in an established or defined format while ensuring a professional look, grammatical accuracy, comprehensibility by users, and orderly layout. Technical information content may be generated by engineers and other technical experts from existing source documentation, notes, drawings, or manuals containing operating procedures and details.
  • Gain knowledge and instructions on the requirements for creating and editing technical publications from supervisors; plan, track content provided iterative changes, refine content in technical publication to standards, and coach content providers on reviewing and editing.
  • Provide feedback on draft technical documentation.
  • Collect, edit, and write publication content for standardized reports, manuals, briefs, or proposals, and related technical publications related to contract(s) and company operations, including but not limited to operational methods and procedures, installation, and maintenance of software and equipment or products.
  • Conduct training for content providers and management users on the classification and coding system for technical documentation.
  • May assist in technical editing of other documentation, brochures, processes, and other projects in support of other business or operations initiatives.
  • Ability to access a variety of resources to aid in the development of technical documentation such as manufacturers' catalogs, drawings, sketches, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and historical references such as archived manuals, notes, etc.
  • High-level competency with Microsoft Office products; particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Associate degree
    • OR an additional 2 years of specific work experience in lieu of degree.
  • 2+ year of relevant/technical work experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with Technicians and Management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and scheduling applications.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years technical publication MRO Experience
  • 1+ years of Aviation experience
  • Technical writing capability with respect to training systems

OTHER:
