Job description

Position Summary
The Underwriting Technical Assistant is responsible for efficiently processing policy-related transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The role reviews and verifies policy applications, endorsements, and cancellations, inputting data accurately into computer systems, and issuing policy documents to clients. They handle inquiries from policyholders, agents, and other stakeholders, providing timely and accurate information on policy-related matters. They assist with underwriting tasks, such as assessing risk factors and calculating premiums.
What will your job entail?
Job Responsibilities
  • Review, clear, and process new business submissions accurately and within established service standards, ensuring data quality and completeness.
  • Enter, verify, and maintain underwriting information in policy administration systems to support rating, documentation, issuance, and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare, bind, issue, and maintain commercial insurance policies for both new and renewal business.
  • Process policy transactions, including endorsements, cancellations, reinstatements, and other policy changes with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Generate and distribute renewal solicitations, non-renewal notices, cancellation notices, and other policy-related correspondence in accordance with regulatory and company guidelines.
  • Investigate and resolve policy booking, billing, accounting, and system discrepancies by collaborating with internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with underwriters, brokers, and management to obtain required information and ensure timely and accurate policy processing.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to internal and external business partners by responding promptly to inquiries and requests.
  • Produce routine, ad hoc, and management reports to support underwriting operations, business performance, and decision-making.
  • Support departmental initiatives, audits, system enhancements, and special projects as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and contribute to continuous process improvement and workflow optimization efforts.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, underwriting guidelines, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; coursework in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, Technology, or a related field is a plus.
  • Minimum of one year of professional office experience required; insurance industry experience, particularly within underwriting operations or policy administration, is preferred.
  • Experience working with insurance systems, policy administration platforms, or other enterprise business applications preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word; SQL or data-querying experience is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy, data integrity, and quality assurance.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
