Job Description:

Position: Part Time/Cafe Assistant

Savannah Technical College seeks a part-time Professional Laboratory Assistant.

This individual is responsible for:

  • Assisting with daily cafe operations, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Providing outstanding customer service to students, faculty, staff, and community guests.
  • Preparing and serve coffee, espresso beverages, specialty drinks, and light cafe menu items.
  • Receiving, display, and merchandise baked goods and pastries produced by Baking and Pastry students.
  • Maintaining attractive product displays and ensure proper food presentation.
  • Operating the point-of-sale (POS) system and accurately process transactions.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the cafe, dining area, and service stations.
  • Monitoring inventory levels and assist with stocking supplies.
  • Following all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
  • Supporting faculty by helping create an efficient learning environment during laboratory production and service.
  • Assisting with catering events, campus functions, and special culinary showcases as needed.
  • Modeling professionalism and excellent hospitality practices for students.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be ServSafe Manager certified
  • Must have 2 years of verifiable entry level experience within the hospitality field
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a cafe, bakery, coffee shop, or restaurant.
  • Retail experience or like sales experience, to include customer service, POS experience, and general selling activities
  • Experience operating a POS system.
  • Knowledge of coffee preparation and basic barista skills.
  • Familiarity with food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Experience working in an educational or training environment.

Physical Demands:

Responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) - four (4) continuous hours at a time. The employee frequently lifts/carries objects that weigh 50lbs. or less. Full range of hand and finger motion is required for data entry purposes.
