Job description

The Assistant Plant Manager is responsible for assisting the Plant Manager with the successful day-to-day operations of the assigned plant location, ensuring compliances with all policies, procedures, and budgets. This person will have an instinct to master all aspects of the plant operations, with the intent to continue with normal business policies and procedures in the event of the absence of the Plant Manager. In addition, this person is to assist with the management of the Plant staff, with the assistance of the Plant management team. Other responsibilities include: staffing, training, operations, discipline, and other personnel issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function.

  • Assist Plant Manager with the daily duties of organizing plant operations, achieving daily production objectives.
  • Schedule routine inspections for equipment to avoid or reduce machine downtime.
  • Maintain proper records for plant related activities.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and regularly clean work area, machines, and equipment.
  • Support the drive for continuous improvement efforts to reduce costs or increase productivity without reducing effectiveness or safety.
  • Lead team members in a manner that enables growth and success through feedback, training, and encouragement.

  • Use independent judgment to assign team member work duties to meet operational requirements. Make sure that team members and co-workers have the information needed to perform their job duties.
  • Effectively utilize lean tools and methodology to make improvements and lead the department in continuous improvement activities.
  • Establish performance expectations for team members and provide regular feedback and performance reviews to ensure that team members understand how their job duties support the company’s mission and have the right tools/resources to do their jobs well.
  • Investigate performance concerns and implement disciplinary action, up to and including termination, as needed and in compliance with company procedures and with consultation with the human resources department.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

An individual qualified for this job must be able to:

  • Operate a computer and demonstrate PC proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS

An individual qualified for this job must have and maintain the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 3+ years of increasingly responsible management experience, or a satisfactory combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above duties.
  • Valid driver’s license.

  • The individual will work in an office setting in the same room as other individuals. Noise levels are average for an office and include conversation and/or office equipment noise.
  • While working with team members at manufacturing and distribution facilities, the individual may be exposed to moving machinery, work in high/precarious places, marked changes in temperature and humidity, and dust, odors, and fumes. Typical noise level is loud.
