What is a tech writer?

Tech Writers, short for Technical Writers, are professionals who create clear and concise documentation that helps users understand and use products, services, or technology. They translate complex technical information into user-friendly manuals, guides, online help, and other supporting documents. Tech Writers often collaborate with engineers, product managers, and subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and clarity. Their work is essential in making technical information accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences.

How does a tech writer typically collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) during documentation projects?

Tech Writers frequently work closely with subject matter experts to gather detailed information and ensure accuracy in technical documents. This collaboration often involves conducting interviews, reviewing drafts together, and clarifying technical concepts to make them accessible for the intended audience. Building strong relationships with SMEs and maintaining open lines of communication are key, as Tech Writers must balance technical precision with clear, user-friendly language. Effective collaboration can also help Tech Writers resolve ambiguities and keep documentation up-to-date as products evolve.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a tech writer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Tech Writer, you need strong writing skills, attention to detail, and an understanding of technical concepts, often backed by a degree in English, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with documentation tools like Microsoft Word, MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, and content management systems is typically required, along with knowledge of markup languages such as HTML or Markdown. Excellent communication, adaptability, and the ability to translate complex information into clear, user-friendly content are crucial soft skills. These abilities ensure that technical information is accessible, accurate, and useful for end users, supporting both product adoption and customer satisfaction.

Job description

About the Opportunity:

We're looking for a Technical Writer to help create, maintain, and improve documentation for Seekr products, with a focus on self-hosted installation, deployment, configuration, and product workflows.

In this role, you'll work closely with Platform, DevOps, Product, Engineering, and Design to document SeekrFlow, SeekrGuard, and related solutions across supported deployment environments, including dedicated hardware and cloud infrastructure. You'll own assigned documentation areas, keep docs accurate as the product evolves, and help users successfully install, configure, and use Seekr products.

This is a hands-on documentation role for someone who can work independently, communicate clearly with technical stakeholders, and contribute to a growing documentation system. You'll follow established documentation standards and patterns while helping identify gaps, propose improvements, and keep the user experience clear and consistent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create, maintain, and improve documentation for assigned Seekr products and deployment workflows, including installation guides, configuration docs, API/SDK docs, user guides, troubleshooting content, and release-related updates.
  • Document self-hosted and dedicated hardware installation workflows across supported environments, including AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI, and other infrastructure as needed.
  • Partner with Platform, DevOps, Product, Engineering, and Design to gather technical details, understand product behavior, and turn complex information into clear user-facing documentation.
  • Maintain documentation within established information architecture, style, templates, and review processes.
  • Identify documentation gaps, inconsistencies, and user pain points, then propose practical improvements.
  • Work directly with stakeholders to clarify documentation requirements, priorities, timelines, and open questions.
  • Review and edit documentation for accuracy, consistency, usability, and clarity.
  • Update existing documentation based on product changes, user feedback, stakeholder input, and internal review.
  • Write for technical audiences, including developers, platform engineers, administrators, and implementation teams.
  • Contribute to reference architecture, deployment, and implementation documentation in collaboration with technical subject matter experts.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience as a Technical Writer in a technology-driven environment, or equivalent practical experience, with demonstrated ownership of complex technical documentation for developer tools, SaaS, infrastructure, cloud, or enterprise software.
  • Experience creating and maintaining documentation for SaaS, developer tools, APIs, SDKs, cloud platforms, self-hosted software, infrastructure, or enterprise software.
  • Strong written communication skills, with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and empathy for the developer-user experience.
  • Ability to work independently with Product, Engineering, DevOps, Platform, and Design stakeholders.
  • Experience writing installation, configuration, deployment, troubleshooting, or implementation documentation.
  • Familiarity with docs-as-code workflows, Git, Markdown, or similar documentation tooling.
  • Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure concepts and common deployment environments such as AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI, Kubernetes, containers, or dedicated hardware.
  • Solid understanding of core generative AI concepts such as inference, fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt engineering, and agent workflows.
  • Ability to explain AI/ML concepts clearly to technical users.
  • Experience with APIs and the ability to write, test, or document code samples.
  • Working knowledge of Python or another programming language.
  • Ability to follow established documentation standards while contributing thoughtful improvements.

What's In It for You:

  • A meaningful role helping users successfully deploy and adopt Seekr products.
  • The opportunity to work on AI, developer tools, platform infrastructure, and enterprise deployment workflows.
  • Collaboration with talented Product, Engineering, Platform, DevOps, and Design teams.
  • Competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plans, and more.
  • Investment in your professional growth, including opportunities for training, certifications, and development.
  • A culture that values innovation, collaboration, clarity, and practical problem-solving.

Seekr is dedicated to diversity and inclusion, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds. If you're eager to drive innovation in AI development and have the skills to lead our documentation to new heights, we want to hear from you. Join us and contribute to a trusted, transparent digital future.
