Job description

Spacecraft represent the most pressing unmet need across the entire aerospace industry. As more launch vehicles come online and the cost to orbit decreases, more companies launching payloads to space continue to emerge.

For the first time in history, this influx of payload companies combined with reduced launch costs has resulted in a massive increase in need for commercial spacecraft platforms, known as satellite buses. These buses hold the payloads of our customers and are flown on launch vehicles.

Apex manufactures these satellite buses at scale using a combination of software, vertical integration, and hardware that is designed for manufacturing. Our spacecraft enable the future of society: ranging from earth observation to communications and more.

We’d love for you to join us on our mission of providing humankind access to the galaxy beyond our planet.

About the Role

The IT Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and optimization of Apex’s technology infrastructure. This role encompasses systems engineering, network management, cloud operations, cybersecurity practices, and cross-functional project delivery. Unlike help desk or support roles, this position will focus on architecture, engineering solutions, and infrastructure lifecycle management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands‑on engineering, administration, and troubleshooting of systems, servers, networks, endpoints, and cloud infrastructure.

  • Build, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot physical and virtual servers from initial deployment through ongoing management.

  • Design, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure.

  • Evaluate solutions, recommend the best approach, and implement fixes while minimizing operational impact.

  • Develop and maintain automation and administrative scripts using PowerShell, Bash, and Python.

  • Lead or participate in IT infrastructure projects and ensure assigned projects are completed promptly, accurately, and within established requirements.

  • Provide Tier 3 technical support and assist other IT teams with complex infrastructure issues.

  • Document configurations, troubleshooting procedures, solutions, and project changes.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong hands‑on technical engineering and troubleshooting experience.

  • In‑depth knowledge of Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and various Linux operating systems.

  • In‑depth knowledge of server deployment, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting, including the ability to build servers from the ground up.

  • In‑depth networking knowledge, including LAN, WAN, VLANs, Wi‑Fi, VPN, routing, switching, firewalls, and network policies.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to dig into complex issues, identify root causes, and develop multiple solutions.

  • Experienced with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Entra ID, Intune, Jira/Confluence, and Slack.

  • Experienced with Microsoft Azure and AWS, including AWS GovCloud environments.

  • Proficiency with PowerShell, Bash, and Python scripting.

  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, documentation, and communication skills.

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field is required.
