Minth North America is looking for a highly motivated Welding Engineer to join our fast-growing Body Structure Technology Center.

In this position, you will play a very important role in leading welding and joining process development for new projects, ensuring manufacturability of assembly process design, and driving continuous improvement. Key responsibilities include developing and qualifying welding processes and procedures (WPS), troubleshooting welding defects, selecting appropriate welding equipment and materials, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The role requires a strong understanding of metallurgy, materials science, and manufacturing processes, along with skills in project management, analysis, and communication. They are crucial for new product development and improving existing manufacturing operations, and often collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality control teams. Your daily duties may involve analyzing welding data, identifying problems in the welding and joining process, and documenting case studies. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, a deep understanding of GD&T, and collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers.

Though not a supervisory position, the Welding and Joining Engineer will provide professional engineering assistance and consultation to other engineers and departments on technical matters for body structure products. This candidate will need to be able to work in a multinational, multicultural global setting.

Core responsibilities
  • Process development and qualification: Create, document, and qualify welding procedures (WPS) and welder performance qualifications (WPQ).
  • Technical expertise: Provide subject matter expertise on welding and joining processes, including various methods like fusion welding, resistance welding, and adhesive bonding etc.
  • Troubleshooting and analysis: Conduct root cause analysis of welding defects, troubleshoot dimensional or quality issues, and perform failure analysis.
  • Materials and equipment: Select appropriate welding processes, materials, and equipment, and support the implementation of new welding methods and robotics.
  • Collaboration: Work with design and manufacturing teams to ensure weldability is considered early in the product design phase.
  • Compliance and standards: Ensure all welding activities comply with industry and customer codes and standards, such as ASME, AWS, and API.
  • Training: Develop and conduct company-wide welding training and certification programs.
  • Documentation: Prepare technical reports and document qualification processes and procedures.
  • Support other work-related tasks for business needs.

  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., AUTOCAD, CATIA or 3D viewer) and other engineering tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and collaboration.
  • A high level of accuracy is critical for calculations, material selection, and process documentation.
  • Knowledge of non-destructive testing (NDT), quality control, and project management is often beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Production & Quality Control in manufacturing.
  • Experience in Aluminum and Steel Body Structures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
