Job description

ESS is all about owning what you do. We're a 100% employee-owned multi-faceted contractor who thrives on delivering complex heavy civil projects by developing innovative infrastructure solutions.
And we mean owned. Every employee owner earns shares in the company at no cost to them, and the work you do directly builds the value of what you own. Ownership shows up in how people show up: crews take pride in the work, share credit, and hold each other accountable. Your job is to capture that.
We're currently searching for a videographer/video editor to join our marketing team. Videographers at ESS are self-motivated individuals with a positive attitude who create dynamic video content for a wide variety of projects. They are responsible for taking the lead and driving projects from an execution standpoint, and must have solid creative development, video editing, and visual communication skills.
What you'll be doing...
  • Creating video and digital media content for a variety of projects.
  • Shooting video and still photography
  • Contributing to creative brainstorming sessions.
  • Researching creative trends and pitching creative concepts.
  • Collaborating with the marketing team to develop style treatments, creative briefs and storyboards.
  • Taking the lead on pre-production activities including scheduling, site logistics, procuring permits, renting equipment, and more.
  • Conducting interviews, directing talent, and recording voice over tracks.
  • Filming on location, processing footage and editing video content.
  • Sourcing music tracks, sound effects, and digital assets that enhance the quality of video content.
  • Enhancing visual elements through animation and motion graphics.
  • Developing video assets for a wide range of creative projects including but not limited to: company events, project sites, social media, ads, training materials, internal communication, promotional material, podcasts, and more.
  • Working with individuals across a variety of teams to develop creative solutions for ESS, our partners, and clients.
  • Transforming ideas into actionable deliverables, assets, and cohesive campaigns.
  • Organizing and maintaining a catalog of footage, videos, templates, and creative elements.
  • Supporting website administrators by turning creative assets into fresh and engaging video content.
  • Collaborating on creative projects with internal teams, creative agencies, and third-party vendors such as photographers and animators.
  • Attending and filming company events and representing the firm at industry events as required.
  • This position reports to the Sr. Videographer
  • This position requires travel: 40% Regional / Daily, 10% overnight and 50% Office

You're a good fit if ...
  • You hold a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline or relevant experience
  • You have 3-5 years of videography experience.
  • You possess a current (or are eligible for a) Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
    • If not currently licensed; must be able to pass the test within 90 days of employment.
  • You have mastery level skills in Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • You have mastery level skills in Adobe After Effects.
  • You are an absolute rockstar in the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • You possess an online portfolio of dynamic, campaign-worthy work and enjoy challenging the status quo.
  • Professional experience with still photography
  • Professional experience with editing RAW images in Lightroom
  • You are adept at working hand-in-hand with an internal marketing team.
  • You approach video with passion and discipline.
  • You have an eye for art direction and are an incredible storyteller.
  • You are passionate about transforming ideas into clear, cohesive, and impactful creative content.
  • You have amazing conceptual and design chops plus interactive know-how.
  • Your visual communication and animation skills will knock our socks off.
  • You're comfortable operating as a "one man band" when you need to. You can handle running a camera, running audio, and editing; there's no part of the video production process you can't handle.
  • You've got an impeccable sense of timing, pacing and ability to work with music.
  • You elevate video content through effective finishing techniques.
  • You run and maintain an orderly edit suite and adapt to the needs of the environment.
  • You have a high-level understanding of codecs, raw video files, exporting, transcoding and compression techniques.
  • You're self-motivated and able to keep projects moving.
  • You're able to adapt as creative assignments change and evolve, while maintaining quality.
  • You're able to work under either strict direction or little direction.
  • You're a little obsessed with processes, proofing and error-checking.
  • You thrive in both an independent and collaborative environment.
  • You don't sweat it if you need to juggle concurrent projects, with tight deadlines, across various teams, with minimal supervision.
  • You have routinely worked with third-party vendors and have experience preparing creative files for the web.
  • You're an active member of the creative community.
  • You consider yourself a learner who is always looking to improve.
  • You play well with others, exhibit grace under pressure and generally have a positive attitude.
  • You don't hesitate to take initiative when needed.

  • You possess knowledge of the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry, with an emphasis in heavy civil construction.

How you can expect to spend your time
Day-to-day and week-to-week your focus will shift. But generally, here is how you can expect your time to be spent:
  • 5% - Researching the latest creative trends and technology
  • 15% - Creative strategy and marketing planning
  • 80% - Capturing and creating video content

Working at ESS
Safety is the foundation of everything we do - Every. Second. Safely. You'll regularly work on and around active heavy civil job sites, which means required PPE, site-specific orientations, uneven terrain, exposure to weather and equipment, and occasional early or extended hours to catch the shot. We'll train you, outfit you, and expect you to look out for yourself and the crews around you. No shot is worth a shortcut.
This role travels. You'll regularly drive to job sites and to our other offices - Springfield and Kansas City are frequent destinations - to shoot on location or support larger productions. Expect a mix of same-day regional trips and multi-day stays, with the balance shifting from week to week depending on what's in production.
It is preferred that this team member will work out of the Springdale, Arkansas office. However, other office locations and hybrid work arrangements would be considered.
Please submit a portfolio and/or reel with your application.
