Union County Community Action, Inc. (UCCA) is seeking passionate early childhood educators to join our Head Start team. The Teacher will lead a preschool classroom serving 3- and 4-year-old children in the Head Start program while creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment that supports children's social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. This position partners with families to promote school readiness and lifelong success.
Starting Rate: Up to $20.56 per hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-3:30pm (40 hours/week)

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate classroom activities
  • Create engaging learning environments and functional learning centers
  • Monitor and assess children's developmental progress
  • Maintain accurate classroom and child assessment records
  • Partner with families through conferences, communication, and home visits
  • Supervise children in classroom, outdoor, and meal settings
  • Collaborate with Assistant Teachers, specialists, and support staff
  • Support children's social-emotional, cognitive, and physical development
  • Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and CACFP requirements

Qualifications
  • Teacher I- Associate's Degree (A.A.) in Early Childhood Development or related field from an accredited two-year college or technical school
  • Teacher II- Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) in Early Childhood Development or related field from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Teacher III- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Early Child Development or equivalent from a four-year college or university; North Carolina State BK-Teacher's Certification, and one to two years' related experience and/or training
  • Experience working in preschool or early childhood setting
  • Child Care Credentials I & II (EDU 119) required, or ability to obtain
  • CPR and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with children, families, and staff
  • Valid driver's license required

Physical Requirements
Must be able to actively supervise young children, move throughout classroom environments, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
