Job description

Under the direction of a certified co-teaching mentor, complete a full school year of clinical experience in an RCSD classroom as part of a supervised program leading to teacher certification.

Must be enrolled in a teacher residency Master's degree program leading to initial certification at one of the following Institutes of Higher Education:

  • Nazareth University- College of Education
  • New York University- Steinhart School of Education
  • University of Rochester- Warner School of Education

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Co-teach with School Based Teacher Educator up to 80% of time, while serving school building in other educational roles (substitute teaching, providing academic intervention support, or other duties as determined by building administration) the remaining 20% of time
  • Implement small- and large-group instruction in collaboration with a certified co-teaching mentor using a gradual release of responsibility model
  • Implement instructional and social-support activities in accordance with the established curriculum and NYS learning standards
  • Attend regular staff meetings, trainings, workshops, and collaboration time in order to plan, develop, and evaluate learning activities and gain experience in a school environment
  • Gather, prepared lesson plans and other resources in order to conduct learning activities
  • Assist students in developing and applying strategies and technologies for accessing knowledge and information
  • Work with teachers to establish and maintain standards for appropriate student behavior
  • Evaluate student work based on guidelines and parameters established by the teacher
  • Assist with maintenance of confidential files/records as requested
  • Plan and participate in parent meetings
  • Serve as a positive role model to inspire and motivate students

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

  • Desire to work in urban education and foster an environment of diversity, equity and inclusion with a belief that all students are capable of learning and being successful
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of the core curriculum
  • Use a variety of effective instructional strategies, resources, and technologies to meet the diverse learning needs of students
  • Interpret and design lesson plans and learning activities
  • Work individually or with small groups of students
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff
  • Implement effective routines and procedures that support appropriate student behavior and safety
  • Work collaboratively with students, staff, community, and administration
  • ;Maintain confidentiality of student records and other sensitive data
  • Demonstrate progress toward becoming a fully qualified certified teacher
