Job description

Purpose: This announcement is for University/College students who have been approved to be a resident teacher by their faculty only. This is not a paid position. As a Resident Teacher, you will gain hands-on experience by assisting a co-educator in delivering instruction and managing daily classroom activities. Your primary goal is to apply theoretical pedagogical knowledge in a real-world setting while fostering a positive, inclusive, and effective learning environment for all students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Collaborate with the cooperating teacher to design and implement engaging lesson plans that align with state curriculum standards. You will lead a small group and whole-class instruction as your placement progresses.
  • Attend daily lessons and activities.Maintain a disciplined, safe, and organized learning environment by enforcing established classroom rules and behavior expectations.
  • Provides instruction to students for lab experiences
  • Cooperates in the development and implementation of the District program of instruction
  • Plans and implements a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students and complies with State Department of Education Standards and the APS Board of Education goals and objectives.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, assignments, units and projects in harmony with curriculum goals and communicates the objectives to students.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Assist in evaluating student progress by grading assignments, projects, and tests, and provide constructive, timely feedback to support growth.Provide one-on-one assistance to students with diverse learning needs, including those with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and parents concerning students' academic, social and behavioral progress.
  • Participate in staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development workshops.
  • Build professional relationships with students, parents, and school staff while adhering to all ethical standards and confidentiality policies.

  • Effective Communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility, organization, decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Knowledge of APS community, computer system, financial procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects, and coordinate the work of others.
  • Knowledge of District policies on immunization, medication, first aid, emergencies and child abuse/neglect.
  • Knowledge of all laws, regulations and guidelines affecting teachers and students.
  • Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, community members and staff

REQUIREMENTS:
Required Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Experience.
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal background verification.
  • Enrolled in an accredited college teacher preparation program.
  • Valid New Mexico Resident Teacher license.
  • Student Liability Insurance as approved by the Program Coordinator.
