Summary
The School of Applied Human Development invites applications for a qualified rank, non-tenure track, Assistant Teaching Professor in Human Development and Family Science with a start date of August 2026. This is a nine-month non-renewable appointment.
Bowling Green State University's Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) program offers a bachelor's degree and three (3) minors - child development, child life, and HDFS. Using a holistic and trauma-informed approach, the program prepares students for community-based careers in social services, family resource services, or public policy. One of our strengths is embedding professional competencies throughout the major that culminates in an internship. One marker of our success is that 96% of our graduates are employed or pursuing an advanced degree within six (6) months of graduation.
The School of Applied Human Development is a multidisciplinary school within the College of Education and Human Development that is dedicated to communicating, advancing, and applying knowledge that fosters the well-being of individuals and families. There are approximately 800 students in the undergraduate programs of Exercise Science, Fashion Merchandising and Product Development, Human Development and Family Science, Interior Design, Sport Management, and Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management, and in the graduate programs of Athletic Training and Sport Administration and Kinesiology. The school is supported by approximately thirty-seven full-time faculty and staff.
The College of Education and Human Development, BGSU's founding college, is the home to a dynamic group of graduate and undergraduate programs, housed across three academic units: the School of Applied Human Development; the School of Counseling, Higher Education, Leadership, and Foundations; and the School of Inclusive Teacher Education. Approximately 150 full-time faculty and staff serve over 3,000 undergraduate students and over 1,000 graduate students. The College promotes and supports a community of inclusion, collaboration, and respect for students, faculty, and staff. This strong sense of community serves as the central tenet for the College's priorities for integrating professional preparation, leadership and service, experiential learning, and inquiry and innovation in all academic programs and related experiences. The College has extensive partnerships across professional, school, and community settings that facilitate collaboration for student experiences and research opportunities.
As a Public University for the Public Good, Bowling Green State University is a comprehensive, high research university located in northwestern Ohio committed to driving economic and cultural vitality in the region and beyond. Through innovative teaching, research and creative activities, BGSU fosters a collaborative and inclusive learning community where inspired ideas, knowledge and achievements support the region, state and nation. More than 760 talented and passionate faculty members teach across more than 200 undergraduate majors and programs, 17 doctoral programs, and 57 master's programs. A focus on promoting research, scholarship, and creative activities has resulted in a significant increase in extramural funding over the past several years.
