Sessional Lecturer - CTL7000H - Curriculum and Teaching in Literacy

Course number and title: : CTL7000H - Curriculum and Teaching in Literacy

                                                                                   

Course description: This course provides an overview of different approaches to literacy teaching. This course addresses the foundational skills for reading, writing, and oral language, along with the critical skills for analyzing and questioning media texts. Throughout the course, students will develop their understanding of evidence-based pedagogical approaches to teaching literacy, with a view to creating opportunities for differentiated and inclusive learning and assessment in K-10 classrooms. This course is open only to students in the Master of Teaching program.

Sessional dates of appointment: 2026-09-01 - 2027-04-30

Appointment percentage: 100

 

 

Salary: As of September 1, 2026, the minimum stipend is $9972.475 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. 

As of January 1, 2027, the minimum stipend is $ $9972.475 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage.                                                                   

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Should possess a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience, 2. Must demonstrate currency and mastery in the course subject matter;  3. Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, including online teaching as relevant; 4. Must demonstrate evidence of knowledge and practice of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion;  5. Must demonstrate excellence in teaching and leading teachers/teacher-candidates professional learning;  6. An Ontario Teaching certificate is an asset.

Description of duties: Prepare, organize, and teach this graduate course; be available to students seeking assistance between classes; evaluate and provide students with feedback on their work. Attend a pre-course planning/preparation meeting with the course instructional team, attend MT All-Instructor Meetings (AIM) and submit course syllabus as requested by the department.
