The Community Music Center of Boston, an arts education nonprofit with a mission to transform lives by providing equitable access to excellent music education and arts experiences, is seeking a motivated and student-centered private piano instructor with knowledge of jazz styles to continue instruction for current and new piano students Fall 2026. Lastly, additional teaching opportunities are available for candidates with the ability to play and teach multiple instruments and/or candidates who are interested in teaching in the public schools.Status: Regular part time hourly, exemptStart Date: Mid August 2026 (onboarding) with orientation September 2nd & 3rd and first teaching date September 9thSchedule: In person, varies by student request, 10-15 hours per week; one - two days between Monday - Thursday (3:00PM-8:00PM - full or partial availability) and full day Saturday (9:00AM-5:30PM) Specific ResponsibilitiesPrivate Studio Management and RetentionTeach students according to curricular guidelinesPrepare students for performance events and opportunities Hold at least one studio recital during the school yearComplete attendance in registration software accurately and timelyMaintain open and regular communication with parents/caregivers and students via email to support educational progressCommunication and ParticipationAttend department meetings and the annual all-faculty meetings as scheduledParticipate in department events, competitions, recitals, and concerts Facilitate student participation in musical opportunities QualificationsEssentialStrong jazz backgroundMust have Bachelor's degree in music performance/education with knowledge in the field of piano performance/pedagogy or equivalent experienceAbility to teach advanced piano students in a variety of stylesMinimum of 2 years teaching experience and knowledge of early childhood piano pedagogies (general classroom management experience preferred)Ability to adapt to individual needs of a diverse student population and provide constructive feedbackMust be adept at and comfortable with working in a culturally diverse environment with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as pedagogical and professional valuesInterest in the following focus areas: Culturally Responsive Teaching, Creative Youth Development - Student Voice/Agency, and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)Regularly reflects on practice, seeks and responds to feedback, and demonstrates self-awareness and commitment to continuous learning and developmentAbility to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, when conversing with students, families, and colleaguesSkilled at engaging with families and building collaborative, respectful relationships with them in service of student learningProficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite (Google Docs, Google Forms, and Google Sheets)PreferredAccompaniment experienceSupervisory experience is highly desirable and may lead to future department leadership opportunitiesFluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, and/or Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese) is highly desirableKnowledge in a diverse range of styles (i.e. Rock, Blues, Folk, Classical, and/or Popular Music)Experience teaching in a public school or community music school setting Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the person in this position must be able to to remain in a stationary position 50-75% of the time. They need to occasionally move around the space to access teaching supplies and instruments. They must also converse with students in a normal classroom setting and discern and recognize changes in tone, pitch, rhythm, and volume.
