Job description

SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER—2026-2027

Arts Academy in the Woods is seeking a Special Education teacher. Candidates

must hold a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.

Pay: $43,000.00 - $80,396.00 per year

Responsibilities:

• Schedule, organize and conduct IEP related meetings

• Develop, write and help implement IEPs

• Participate in the school’s Student Support Team; help teachers develop and

implement program modifications and strategies for all students;

• Assist, as needed, with the organization and proper implementation of all

paperwork, documentation and procedures for the IEP process;

• Manage and provide instructional guidance and general strategies for a

caseload of students;

• Evaluate tests and assessments, complete report cards and conduct parent

conferences;

• Communicate regularly with parents/learning coaches of students with

special needs to ensure that their IEP goals are being met, and that their

needs are addressed in a timely and appropriate fashion;

• Consult with teachers and coordinate the implementation of specially

designed instruction as defined in the IEP regarding students with specific

needs and potential learning issues; Work directly with special education

students in a resource room.

• Complete faculty responsibilities per the AAW Master Teacher Contract

• Contribute to the AAW community through grade level and subject area

teams.

Qualifications:• Current Michigan Certification in Special Education.

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University.

• Experience teaching in Special Education

• Experience working with high school students and families.

Compensation:

• Salary is commensurate with education and experience, per the Arts

Academy in the Woods Master Agreement Certified Teacher Salary Scale

BA Step 1 $43,000 – MA+30 Step 15 $80, 396

• Benefit package available, including premium free medical and dental,

MPSERS retirement, and low premium family vision per the Arts Academy in

the Woods Teacher Master Contract

• Position would be within the American Federation of Teachers, Michigan
