 Beaumont Independent School District  Job Description         JOB TITLE: Special Education Aide CLASSIFICATION: Nonexempt REPORTS TO: Principal PAY GRADE: PSS PayGrd / 183 Days LOCATION: Assigned Campus DATE REVISED:   11/10/2022 FUNDED BY: IDEA-B Formula, IDEA-B Preschool       

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assist the teacher in meeting the instructional needs of students with disabilities. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 48-College Credit hours or
  • Highly Qualified Paraprofessional Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective planning and organization skills
Experience:
  • Experience working with students with disabilities preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  1. Perform routine classroom tasks under the direction and supervision of the teacher in assigned classroom.
  2. Help the teacher supervise students during times of transition and on the playground, bus, and lunchroom.
  3. Assist the teacher in preparation and use of instructional materials.  Duplicate instructional materials as needed and provide classroom clerical operations.
  4. Work with individual or groups of students in a variety of educational experiences providing instructional exercises and instructional drills under the supervision of the teacher in assigned classroom.
  5. Assist students as needed with physical needs such as diapering, positioning, feeding, etc.
  6. Collect instructional and behavioral data as instructed by the classroom teacher.
  7. Provide any information requested by teacher(s)/administrator(s) for the development of the student's IEP.
  8. Assist in the implementation of the behavior intervention plan as directed by the classroom teacher.
  9. Follow all campus procedures regarding absences, leaving the campus, etc.  The paraprofessional shall not leave the classroom without informing and receiving approval from the teacher.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher and/or principal.
  11. Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.

**The State Board for Educator Certification will require all first time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49. 00 will be charged for fingerprinting.
