About METRCThe Media and Education Technology Resource Center (METRC) provides technology and media resources in support of college faculty, students, and staff. METRC provides resources and services to facilitate the preparation of professional educators, counselors and administrators at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to model an exemplary school library media center. In addition to an extensive array of educational technology, METRC maintains a collection of K-12 literature and current state-adopted K12 textbooks. Services include professional development opportunities for both students and faculty and instruction/collaboration in literacy and instructional technology. The METRC space is a comfortable, inviting environment with individual and collaborative work and conferencing spaces. METRC has an open PC and Mac lab with access to Wolfcopy printers including a plotter (poster) printer as well as scanners, a SmartBoard, an Ellison die cutter, 3-D printers in a MakerSpace and more. Essential Job Duties
Duties and Responsibilities:The Assistant Director of Media & Instructional Resources reports to the Director of METRC to ensure that students and faculty are provided with state-of-the-art resources and support to further their academic and instructional goals. The position provides leadership within METRC and the College as a licensed librarian, guiding collection development, advising on library policy, and advocating for the role of librarians within educational communities. The Assistant Director works both independently and in coordination with university colleagues to provide a wide range of services, library and technical support, and professional learning for faculty and students. The position must expertly evaluate, plan, and implement METRC's programs. In addition the position curates the digital and print collections, coordinating with other staff to ensure that high quality print and digital resources are secured, maintained, and available. Lead Librarian also works with faculty to integrate technology and METRC resources throughout their courses via consulting, co-teaching, online support, workshops, and guest speaker interactions.
Essential Job Duties:
  • Design, promote, and evaluate informal programs to engage students and faculty which build community and awareness of resources
  • Serve as an active team member in designing and implementing instruction related to educational technology, media literacy, digital accessibility, and the use of related curriculum resources.
  • Apply knowledge of trends in technologies and print and digital media as they contribute to meeting the needs of faculty and students Supervise the development of various collections, ordering new materials as necessary to keep collections comprehensive and current
  • Assist in the the annual budget process by researching items/technologies, gathering quotes, and prioritizing spending
  • Participate in continued professional development in educator preparation, emerging technologies and library best practices

Other Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with library staff to offer a comprehensive library program,reader's advisory, and promotion/marketing of collection materials
  • Instruct undergraduate students in best practices for collaborating with school librarians and technology facilitators
  • Stay abreast of research by attending and presenting at local, state, and national conferences
  • Consult with and design professional development for faculty regarding emerging technologies and media literacy
  • Support Library Technician in overseeing work study students and managing desk services.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Library media coordinator license and/or minimum two years school library experience.
  • Minimum two years' experience in a relevant K-12 instructional role.
  • Must have strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment; must be well organized, dedicated, accurate, thorough, with attention to detail and follow-through and a focus on service.

Other Required Qualifications
  • High-level skills and proficiency with a wide range of technology resources and their application to teaching and learning, including, but not limited to, Google Workspace, web-based educational tools, coding platforms, classroom presentation media, virtual reality, learning management system(s), web development tools, iOS devices, 3-D printing, and conferencing applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and meet the needs of individuals from varied communities and cultures.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Self-motivated and self-starting with capacity to attend to organizational detail.
  • Capacity to focus on providing service to students and faculty/staff with demonstrated follow-through on projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree or certification in library science, instructional technology, instructional design, multimedia, information technology, or related field.
  • NC K-12 teaching license
