Spanish Immersion Teachers:


  • Plan, teach, and assess elementary K-5 math, science and Spanish literacy.
  • Team with an English-partner teacher as part of the dual immersion program.
  • Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the District's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
  • Plan a program of study that is designed to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field
  • Must hold or be eligible for a State of Delaware initial or continuing license
  • Must hold or be eligible for certification in Elementary (K-6) or Early Childhood (Birth-Grade 2)
  • Must hold or be eligible for certification in World Language (K-12) or Bilingual Teacher (K-12) in Spanish
  • Must have specialized training/student teaching in grades K-12
  • Must be able to achieve a rating of passing or higher on the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Oral Proficiency Interview (ACTFL OPI)
  • Must be able to achieve a rating of passing or higher on the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages on the Writing Proficiency Test (ACTFL WPT) or must be able to Praxis II: Spanish Test (Test code: 5195) and
  • Must be able to successfully complete and pass Praxis #5001 or Praxis Elementary Education Content Knowledge

General Description: The Spanish Immersion Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and delivering a comprehensive Spanish immersion curriculum to students in the elementary school grades. This role involves creating a dynamic and immersive learning environment where students develop strong language proficiency, cultural awareness, and a passion for Spanish language and Hispanic cultures.

MUST BE PREPARED TO:

  • Collaborate with English partner teacher
  • Meet with parents form both classes for Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences and workshops


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development:
    • Develop and implement a well-structured and engaging Spanish immersion curriculum that aligns with national and state standards.
    • Integrate language, literature, and cultural elements into lesson plans to enhance the overall learning experience.
  • Instructional Delivery:
    • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, collaboration, and critical thinking.
    • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
    • Conduct lessons predominantly in Spanish to immerse students in the language-learning process.
  • Assessment and Feedback:
    • Design and administer assessments to evaluate students' language proficiency, comprehension, and cultural understanding.
    • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students, addressing areas for improvement and celebrating successes.
  • Cultural Integration:
    • Incorporate Hispanic culture, traditions, and current events into the curriculum to provide students with a well-rounded understanding of Spanish-speaking countries.
    • Organize cultural events, projects, or guest speakers to enhance cultural immersion.
  • Technology Integration:
    • Integrate technology tools and resources to enhance language learning, such as language apps, multimedia presentations, and online resources.
  • Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with colleagues, including other language teachers, to create cross-curricular connections and reinforce language skills in other subject areas.
    • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress, upcoming events, and ways to support language learning at home.
  • Professional Development:
    • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in language education, attending workshops and conferences as needed.
    • Participate in professional learning communities to share experiences and collaborate with peers.
  • Classroom Management:
    • Implement effective classroom management strategies to create a positive and productive learning environment.
    • Establish clear expectations for behavior and enforce consistent and fair consequences.

  1. Knowledge
    • Familiarity with the Delaware Performance Appraisal System (DPAS-II) and/or Delaware Teacher Growth Support System (DTGSS).
    • Understanding of Equity initiatives & resources that promote a culture of diversity and inclusion embracing differences as a strategic opportunity towards leading the District's efforts to build a culture of equality and embodiment for all students, families, employees and the community.
    • Must possess a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Special Education, 504 Plans.
    • Must be aware of relevant policies and procedures mandated by the State of DE including Comprehensive School Safety Program and Delaware Emergency Management Agency that promotes a safe school environment and includes training in areas such as; The RAVE Panic App, Navigate360, School Emergency Plans, Suicide Response, Child Abuse Prevention, Criminal Youth Gang, Teen Dating Violence, School Bullying Prevention, & Safe Positive Approach to Behavior.
    • Must have experience and a working knowledge of e-School and data management systems in addition to Google Docs to monitor and track student data related to school discipline and climate.
