Teacher - Special EducationLaurel Hall School | Hagerstown, MD

Monday-Friday, 7:30am-3:30pm 

Make a Difference Every DayLaurel Hall School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher to provide high-quality instruction and implement individualized educational programming for students with diverse learning, behavioral, and emotional needs. The successful candidate will create a safe, engaging, and therapeutic learning environment while supporting students in achieving their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. Position SummaryThe Teacher is responsible for delivering instruction aligned with student IEPs, providing ongoing assessment and progress monitoring, maintaining effective classroom management, and collaborating with interdisciplinary team members to support student success.QualificationsRequired:
  • Maryland teaching certification in Special Education appropriate for the assignment (conditional certification may be accepted).
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field that qualifies the individual to work with children and adolescents.
  • Candidates with a qualifying Bachelor's degree who do not yet hold a Maryland teaching certificate may be hired provisionally and must participate in and successfully complete an approved teacher preparation program to obtain certification.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize responsibilities, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Current BLS (CPR) and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Valid Driver’s License in the state that you reside. No record of moving violations in the past three years is preferred.
Preferred:
  • Experience teaching children and adolescents with multiple exceptionalities.
  • Two or more years of teaching experience at the elementary or secondary level.
  • Knowledge of learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, and educational assessment.
  • Special education content-area certification.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Implement instructional programs and services in accordance with IEP requirements.
  • Develop lesson plans, assignments, and classroom materials that support student growth.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress toward academic and behavioral goals.
  • Maintain accurate grade books, progress reports, and educational documentation.
  • Utilize positive behavior interventions and proactive classroom management strategies.
  • Supervise and provide instructional guidance to Teaching Assistants and Behavioral Specialists.
  • Foster a therapeutic and engaging learning environment that encourages student success.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and collaborate with colleagues, families, and support staff.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of behavior management, de-escalation techniques, and crisis intervention practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
