Part Time Lab Assistant Tattoo Arts

Lab Assistant, Tattoo Art
Part-Time | Approximately 10 hours per week (maximum 499 hours per year)

The Lab Assistant of Tattoo Art, under the supervision of the Manager of Arts Operations, assists in the management of the day-to-day functions of the Tattoo Art labs for the benefit of the students and instructors of Tattoo Art. Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, monitoring open labs, accounting of consumable materials, monitoring machines and equipment, organization and clean-up of studio and equipment, etc. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. and remain upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.

MAJOR JOB DUTIES

  • Monitoring open studio/lab hours as scheduled each semester.

  • Ensuring that participating students sign into open labs and are currently enrolled in Tattoo Art classes.

  • Assisting instructors as needed.

  • Establishing with the Manager of Arts Operations and input from faculty a schedule of open studio/lab coverage that assures proportionate studio/lab coverage. Report all schedule changes to the MAO.

  • Turning copies of the studio/lab schedule into the School Office and posting the studio/lab scheduled in the Tattoo Art classrooms.

  • Individually checking out/in tattoo machines and ensuring the safe and proper use of all tools, chemicals, and equipment.

  • Helping students with technical questions regarding Tattoo Art techniques and safety procedures they have learned in class.

  • Assuring clean-up of studio space after each open studio/lab. This may require lifting and moving large and or/heavy objects, as well as the safe disposal of chemicals, and trash.

  • Monitoring and directing students in the care, proper cleaning, and maintenance of the studio and equipment.

  • Weekly inventory of both lab fee materials and consumables.

  • Pick up supplies as needed from local vendors.

  • Support ordering and receiving of materials in partnership with faculty and the MAO. Perform simple repairs on equipment and, if necessary, contact MOA or vendors regarding repairs.

SECONDARY JOB DUTIES

  • Maintaining a weekly log of what has been done in the studio during the preceding week including:

  • An account of the work completed and the performance of student workers.

  • Any repair and/or maintenance done to tools and equipment.

  • Report any problems with studio conditions, HVAC plumbing, and trash removal, etc. to the Arts main office.

  • Report any problems to IT regarding digital printing.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the MAO or Dean in support of the school's goals and objectives.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or general equivalency

  • 1-3 years of job-related experience

  • Familiarity with tattoo art techniques and safety protocols

  • Excellent verbal communication skills

  • Must be able to lift 20lbs & remain upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.

  • Pre-Placement Physical Required

HOURLY RATE$20.2135 - $21.6284 (commensurate with experience)
