GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sawcutting Assistant supports the Sawcutting Operator in preparing, operating, and maintaining equipment used for cutting concrete, asphalt, and other materials. This role involves assisting with site preparation, equipment handling, material transport, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. The Sawcutting Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the efficiency and success of sawcutting operations.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Site Preparation and Support

  • Assist in preparing job sites for sawcutting activities, including clearing debris and marking cutting lines under the direction of the operator.
  • Transport and position tools, equipment, and materials needed for the job.
  • Ensure the work area remains clean, organized, and free of hazards during and after cutting operations.

Equipment Assistance

  • Help set up and adjust sawcutting equipment as directed by the operator.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks, such as cleaning tools and lubricating equipment.
  • Monitor equipment during use and report any issues to the operator or supervisor.

Safety and Compliance

  • Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to maintain a hazard-free work environment.
  • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure others on-site adhere to safety standards.
  • Assist with setting up safety barriers and signage around the work area.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Sawcutting Operator and other crew members to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively to coordinate tasks and ensure smooth workflow.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the operator or site supervisor to support project goals.

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Basic knowledge of sawcutting tools, equipment, and techniques.
  • Ability to follow instructions and assist in precise execution of tasks.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Basic understanding of safety practices and regulations in a construction environment.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in sawcutting or related construction roles preferred.
  • Familiarity with concrete cutting techniques and equipment maintenance.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS

  • Outdoor work environment with exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, and debris.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, and maneuvering of equipment and materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires standing, bending, and assisting with equipment for extended periods.
  • Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots.
  • Regular work hours with occasional overtime or weekend shifts based on project demands.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficient in operating and maintaining sawcutting tools and equipment.
