Job Description
Job Summary
Provide peer mentoring to TAMIU CAMP students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform peer mentoring to freshmen (or transfer) students.
  • Meet individually with students weekly.
  • Maintain current and confidential records and information.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with UNIV instructors and University College staff.
  • Prepare written reports related to student mentoring and other related assignments.
  • Meet regularly with TAMIU CAMP for staff meetings, training, and/or workshops.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
  • Current TAMIU student with 60 SCH or more at the time of appointment.
  • Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).

Preferred Experience
  • Migrant or seasonal farm worker background.
  • Experience with student engagement activities
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • Computer literate.

  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Interact effectively and professionally with students and staff.
  • Motivate students.
  • Work effectively in teams.

  • Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.

  • Promptly complete all required trainings.
  • Submit time sheet biweekly.
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Subject to funding and/or need.

Pay of Rate: $9.00/hour for up to 19 hours weekly
