Job description

Now Hiring: Explorers of the Subsurface!

Do you love science, dirt, data, and discovery? Ready to launch your geology career and get your boots dirty (in the best way)? Talon/LPE is seeking a Staff Geologist to join our rock-solid team of environmental experts. We’re not just another consulting firm — we’re a tight-knit crew dedicated to protecting our environment and solving complex subsurface mysteries.

If you're fueled by curiosity, driven by purpose, and ready to be the boots on the ground in real-world environmental investigations — read on!

What You’ll Do:

You’ll support all aspects of subsurface investigations, from planning to execution. That means:

  • Assist with the planning and oversight of drilling projects.

  • Collect, analyze, and QA/QC geologic and environmental data in the field.

  • Create groundwater gradient, iso-contour, and site maps (yep, you get to map like a pro).

  • Sample everything from soil and groundwater to vapor and surface water.

  • Oversee subcontractors, install & plug monitoring wells, respond to spills, and more.

  • Generate reports that tell the environmental story — clearly and scientifically.

  • Communicate with regulatory agencies and clients with professionalism and poise.

  • Travel to project sites (including remote locations) and work in all weather conditions.

What You Bring to the Table:
  • B.S. in Geology (required)

  • 0–2 years of field experience (internships or class-based fieldwork welcome!)

  • Computer savvy — MS Word, Excel, and ArcGIS are your tools of the trade.

  • A strong understanding of environmental investigation techniques.

  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work outdoors year-round.

  • Strong communication skills — written, verbal, and interpersonal.

  • Team spirit with a strong work ethic, curiosity, and a drive to get the job done right.

  • Ability to travel 100% of the time as needed — this is not your average desk job!

Key Traits That Set You Apart:
  • Safety First: You take pride in doing things the right way — always.

  • Problem Solver: You think on your feet and love finding solutions in the field.

  • Results Driven: You get the job done without cutting corners.

  • Collaborative Spirit: You lift others up and keep morale high.

  • Excellent Communicator: You translate complex findings into clear insights.

Working Conditions:
  • Mostly field-based, especially early in your career.

  • Standard business hours with possibility for extended hours, as projects demand.

  • You’ll gain hands-on experience that textbooks can’t match.
