Talent Acquisition & Onboarding Specialist
Volunteers of America Michigan | Full-time
Position Summary
The Talent Acquisition & Onboarding Specialist is responsible for full-cycle recruiting and structured onboarding for all positions across the organization. This role reports to the Director of Human Resources and is accountable for timely, accurate, and compliant execution of all talent acquisition and new hire integration activities.
What You'll Do
Recruiting
• Manage full-cycle recruiting for open positions - requisition intake, job posting, sourcing, screening, interview coordination, and offer preparation
• Coordinate and schedule candidate interviews with hiring managers; maintain structured communication throughout the process
• Initiate and track background checks and MVR reports within required timelines; maintain accurate documentation of results
• Maintain accurate recruiting metrics and submit required weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports
• Partner with hiring managers on role requirements and candidate evaluation
• Conduct recruiting events, job fairs, and community outreach as assigned, including occasional travel
• Manage job postings across approved platforms; ensure compliant, consistent language
Onboarding & New Hire Integration
• Own end-to-end onboarding execution for all new hires
• Oversee I-9 verification and ensure all forms are completed within required federal timelines
• Process and verify pre-hire and onboarding documentation in UKG
• Coordinate new hire orientation, including policy review, system setup, and benefits enrollment introduction
• Maintain centralized onboarding checklists
• Coordinate with IT, benefits, and hiring managers so equipment and access are ready by Day 1
• Track 30/60/90-day onboarding milestones
Compliance & Documentation
• Maintain compliance with federal and Michigan employment regulations
• Escalate compliance gaps or process deviations to the Director of Human Resources
Qualifications - Required
• 2-3 years of full-cycle recruiting experience, hands-on
• Working knowledge of I-9 compliance and federal employment documentation standards
• HRIS experience (UKG preferred)
• Strong attention to detail; able to manage multiple requisitions without errors
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; strong written and verbal communication skills
• Understanding of compliant recruiting practices, including offer and background-check sequencing
Qualifications - Preferred
• Experience in a multi-site or multi-department organization
• Familiarity with Michigan employment law
• Experience managing onboarding in high-volume or fast-paced environments
Other Requirements
• Valid driver's license
• Regular on-site presence; occasional travel for recruiting events and site visits
