Job Description Summary
Municipal Emergency Services, Inc. (MES) is seeking a full-time tailor for hands-on altering uniforms. You will ensure all measurements and fittings are done properly, read and accurately identify the customer's needs per the Work Order Instructions. Meet Production deadlines. Take necessary measurements and mark garments for alterations with ability to problem solve individual sizing issues. Perform uniform sewing, alternations, and embellishments with accuracy and efficiency to include tapering shirts, adjusting waists, hemming trousers, placing zippers, adding pant stripes, apply patches, apply name strips, and apply stripes.

Required Qualifications
  • Attention to detail
  • Must be able to multitask, prioritize and work under deadline/pressure
  • A wide range of knowledge of different types of designs and uses of tools and machines
  • Great knowledge of different types of sewing machines such as single needle, double needle, blind stitch, and merrow machines
  • A great understanding of feed a thread through machine guides
  • Great knowledge of different fabrics
  • Ability to pick the correct tool or equipment needed to do a job
  • The knowledge to adjust machine functions depending on the type of fabric being used
  • The knowledge to select the proper thread to use for certain types of materials
  • Ability to apply pins and markings to the fabric for different types of designs
  • Customer service mindset and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates self confidence - self starter - takes the initiative and follows through
  • High level of integrity

Desired Characteristics
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the tailoring industry

Physical Requirements:
  • Be able to sit and stand for periods at a time.
  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Education:
  • High school or equivalent (Required)
