Overview:
Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking a skilled and dedicated MRI Technologist for a full-time, day shift position with our partner's leading imaging department in Pittsfield, MA (Western Massachusetts). This role offers a consistent schedule and the chance to contribute to accurate diagnoses while ensuring patient comfort and safety. The ideal candidate will be adept at performing a variety of MRI procedures, proficient with imaging systems, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Independently perform a comprehensive range of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedures in accordance with established protocols, ensuring images meet high clinical and diagnostic standards.
  • Operate MRI scanners and associated equipment safely and effectively, selecting appropriate imaging parameters and protocols for each examination.
  • Proficiently operate and troubleshoot CR (Computed Radiography), DR (Digital Radiography), and PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) systems with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Prepare patients for MRI examinations, explain procedures clearly, screen for contraindications, and ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the scan.
  • Adhere strictly to infection control practices, patient safety protocols (including MRI safety zones and screening), and confidentiality requirements (HIPAA).
  • Maintain accurate patient records and procedural documentation within the RIS (Radiology Information System) and HIS (Hospital Information System).
  • Perform quality control procedures on MRI equipment and report any malfunctions or issues promptly.
  • Collaborate effectively with radiologists, referring physicians, nurses, and other members of the clinical team to ensure timely and accurate imaging results and coordinated patient care.
  • Keep all required certifications (ARRT, CPR) and departmental competencies current through participation in mandatory training sessions and continuing education.
  • May provide occasional oversight, guidance, or training to peers or students to support departmental needs and foster a learning environment.
  • Must meet annual education and compliance standards set by the organization.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Completion of an AMA-approved (or equivalent accredited) MRI program OR an accredited Diagnostic X-ray program with subsequent specialized MRI training.
  • Certification:
    • Current CPR (BLS) certification is required.
    • ARRT (MR) certification is required within two (2) years of hire if not already possessed.
  • Skills:
    • MRI Imaging and Technical Accuracy: Proven ability to produce high-quality MRI images across a range of anatomical areas.
    • PACS/HIS/RIS System Competency: Strong working knowledge and proficiency with these imaging informatics systems.
    • Independent Judgment in Clinical Imaging: Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage multiple clinical tasks, and make sound decisions regarding imaging protocols and patient care.
    • Strong interpersonal and patient care skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current ARRT (MR) certification at time of hire.
  • Current ARRT (R) certification (Registered Technologist in Radiography).
  • Valid Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist License (if holding ARRT(R)).
  • Prior experience working as an MRI Technologist in a hospital or busy outpatient imaging setting.
