RETROFIT ENGINEER INTERN

**This is a year-round PAID internship for a local Kansas City mechanical engineering student available to work 20+ hours per week minimum (Monday - Friday)**

Smith & Loveless is united under one cause: “Protecting Water. Protecting People.”  We are seeking a Retrofit Engineering Intern to partner with our experienced Retrofit Engineering Team in this environmentally focused industry.

A Retrofit Engineering Intern at Smith and Loveless works closely with the Retrofit Application Engineer and Bidding Supervisor in all aspects of processing jobs, inquiries, bids, and technical support for Retrofit Equipment. They have the ability to analyze new equipment layout, pricing, specifications and bid documents. Additionally, they assist with updating Retrofit’s Price Book and other department resources.

Job duties

  • Provide quick and timely order processing and quotes to sales managers, Representatives, and customers.
  • Prepare retrofit equipment proposals and bid documents for larger projects, keeping track of required bid and approval dates.
  • Provide Technical Engineering Support in determining equipment required to perform various retrofit jobs, including laying out of the new retrofit equipment into existing equipment, developing the costing, bid, specifications and other documents to support Internal S&L Retrofit Sales Team, Representatives and Customers.
  • Work with Retrofit Bidding and AE Supervisor to keep pricing tools up to date.
  • Develop new costing and processing tools, create presentations, and help refine internal training material and process documents. 
  • Collaborate closely with Customer, Representative, Engineering and Internal S&L groups during the quoting process.
  • Other assignments as determined by VP of Aftermarket Division.
  • Keep work area neat and clean.

Skills/Requirements

  • Currently pursuing Bachelor of Science Degree.  Preferred field of study in Engineering or Construction Management. (2028 or 2029 grad)
  • Ability to work 20+ hours per week year-round in Lenexa, Kansas.
  • Good student mentality and positive attitude.
  • Experience with interpreting manufacturing standard documents and production drawings/documents is a benefit.
  • Effective communication skills (written and oral), ability to communicate technical requirements, meet deadlines, and detail oriented. 
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives with limited supervision.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
