IA Interior Architects Boston Studio is seeking an experienced Project Manager (PM) or Project Architect (PA) focused on Science and Technology. This role will lead the planning, design, coordination, and execution of complex advanced technology, research & development, advanced manufacturing, life science, and innovation environments.

The successful candidate will combine technical expertise, project leadership, and client relationship management to deliver high-performance environments that support scientific discovery, innovation, and operational excellence. This individual will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, and client stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and design.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership

  • Lead life science and advanced technology projects from programming through construction administration and occupancy.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, resources, and risk throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, contractors, and internal project teams.
  • Facilitate project meetings and coordinate stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensure project objectives, performance requirements, and client expectations are clearly defined and achieved.

Technical Design & Documentation

  • Lead the development and coordination of design documentation, specifications, and technical deliverables.
  • Coordinate laboratory planning, equipment integration, engineering systems, and specialty consultant requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, life safety regulations, laboratory standards, and client protocols.
  • Review drawings and documents for quality, constructability, and technical accuracy.
  • Support design teams in integrating workplace, laboratory, and technology requirements into cohesive project solutions.

Client Management

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, end users, and project stakeholders.
  • Lead presentations, workshops, and programming sessions.
  • Understand client operational requirements and translate them into effective design strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for additional services and future project engagements.

Team Leadership

  • Mentor and guide project team members.
  • Foster collaboration among designers, architects, engineers, laboratory planners, and consultants.
  • Support studio initiatives, knowledge sharing, and best practices.
  • Contribute to recruitment, professional development, and team growth efforts.

Construction Administration

  • Participate in contractor coordination, submittal reviews, RFIs, and site observations.
  • Monitor construction progress and assist in resolving field issues.
  • Support project closeout activities and post-occupancy evaluations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, Interior Design, or related discipline.
  • 8+ years of professional experience managing complex life science or advanced technology projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects through all phases of design and construction.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory planning principles, technical building systems, and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Familiarity with Revit, BIM workflows, and construction documentation.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and client management skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and leadership abilities.
