Summary
The Surgical Materials Associate is responsible for applying experience and learned practices in ensuring the operating rooms have the equipment, implant, and inventory needs to successfully care for our patients. In addition, they are responsible for the coordination of activities between the inventory team, , sterile processing, , surgical services, and business management to ensure surgical patients have the appropriate necessities at the right time in the safest and most cost efficient manner.
Job Description
The Surgical Materials Associate will review cases and preference cards, monitor OR equipment, foster relationships with the OR, and constantly navigate requests for equipment, implants, and supplies.
The Surgical Materials Associate collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan and coordinate care for the surgical patient. They are responsible for the planning and acquisition of items that will be used in surgery. They are continuously assessing changes in the surgical schedule to facilitate case flow. The role requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and critical thinking to ensure case accuracy and quality. Usage and application of EMR, inventory, and analytical systems: systems including but not limited to EPIC, OneReport, Tecsys, and Lawson.
Cares for patients by properly planning for each patient's surgical requirements. Responsible for the planning and acquisition of items that will be used in surgery for the care of our patients, describes methods and procedures for auditing quality, maintaining knowledge of all organizational and governmental rules affecting the surgical area, and dispose of damaged or defective items, or return them to the inventory team.
Qualifications
High school diploma required. Associate degree or post-secondary education preferred.
Three to five years of experience as a LPN, Surgical Technologist, or in inventory management preferred.
