KEY Swimming is a competitive, dual-affiliated (YMCA and USA Swimming) swim club comprising regularly operating with 100+ active members. We are dedicated to fostering a positive, competitive, and developmental environment for youth athletes of all ages and abilities. Our program operates out of three facilities and proudly hosts three annual swim meets. We are seeking an experienced, passionate, and highly organized Swim Team Director to lead our competitive swim program. The Swim Team Director will direct the overall growth and daily operations of the team. KEY Swimming is headquartered at the South Branch of the Great Dayton YMCA organization.
Position Summary:
Develops, organizes, and implements high quality instructional training/coaching to program participants in the Swim Team program.

Essential Functions:
  • Directs, supervises, and monitors swim team operations and program activities to meet YMCA objectives and adhere to state, local and YMCA of the USA guidelines for competitive coaching and swimming.
  • Hire, train, and supervise swim team coaches.
  • Monitor swim team coaches for readiness and necessary certifications.
  • Hold regular planning meetings with coaches to ensure consistency of programming.
  • Evaluate swim team coaches to ensure professionalism and correct coaching methods are being used.
  • Schedule meets for all levels of competition.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors annual budgets for the swim team program.
  • Agree and enforce scheduled practice times.
  • Develop a written training and instructional plan for each swimmer.
  • Keep accurate records on each swimmer evaluating him/her at the beginning and end of the session.
  • Communicate effectively to both children and their guardians regarding the swimmer's progress and behaviors.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance.
  • Must be able to meet the physical and emotional demands of the job including being able to get into the water for training and instruction.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment. Removing any hazardous obstacles and reporting unsafe conditions or equipment to your supervisor.
  • Provide an emotionally secure environment for participants.
  • Have the aptitude and attitude for coaching all ages and levels of swimming ability.
  • Give excellent coaching instructions.
  • Promote aquatics and other YMCA programs.
  • Communicate to direct supervisor any concerns, needed repairs, or incidents that may need follow-up.
  • Communicate any suggestions to improve the aquatics facility.
  • Assist in YMCA Branch Director on Duty responsibilities and rotation.

Qualifications:
  • A 2-year college degree or applicable experience is required; Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Certification requirements include CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and must hold current YMCA Lifeguard certification (or hold a valid American Safety and Health (ASHI) Lifeguard certification and attend YMCA Crossover with 90 days of employment).
  • Two years or more of coaching related experience preferred.
  • Previous competitive swimming experience with knowledge of competitive stroke, starts and turns required.
  • One year minimum of supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license, insurable drivers record according to the YMCA's insurance carriers, and have reliable transportation to travel for business meetings, training events, YMCA site visits, vendors and suppliers, etc.
  • Computer skills needed, particularly with Microsoft Office and email applications, along with ability to learn the internal YMCA software.
