Description
Purpose
The Sustainability Programs Manager will lead the development and execution of Roseburg's sustainability programs by overseeing ESG data management, regulatory compliance, and product environmental declarations. This role will partner closely with other teams to advance environmental performance, transparency, and compliance, while serving as a trusted advisor on sustainability issues, represent the company in associations and committees, and drive meaningful improvements across operations, product declarations, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
  • Sustainability Strategy & Governance
    • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned with business goals.
    • Collaborate across functions (Commercial, Operations, Marketing, Compliance) to ensure alignment and execution of sustainability initiatives.
    • Communicate policy updates, implications, and strategic direction to key personnel internally.
  • Data Management, ESG Reporting & Product Declarations
    • Oversee ESG data collection, validation, and reporting; prepare materials to meet customer and board requirements.
    • Maintain the corporate carbon database (Scopes 1, 2, and 3) and track progress against targets.
    • Lead the creation and maintenance of product environmental information, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of reporting - Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), Health Product Declarations (HPD), Product Transparency Documents (PTDs), and Carbon Assessments.
    • Produce the annual Corporate Sustainability Report for the Board of Directors.
  • Compliance, Certifications & Due Diligence
    • Manage FSC/SFI/PEFC certification activities; serve as the central contact for 3rd party certifiers and programs.
    • Develop Sustainable Biofuels Program (SBP) to support sales of biofuel to Japan from the Coos Bay Shipping Terminal.
    • Develop and deliver training for FSC Site Coordinators and other sustainability-related training for internal and external audiences.
    • Maintain LEED and other green building program compliance materials to meet customer requirements.
  • Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
    • Identify, quantify, and drive opportunities for energy efficiency and emissions reductions across facilities and processes.
    • Work with Commercial and Operations teams to revise and maintain product declarations and sustainability communications.
    • Develop a centralized documentation repository for all sustainability-related records and certifications.
  • Communications, Training & Public Engagement
    • Represent and advocate for Roseburg with external stakeholders as needed.
    • Communicate sustainability updates and strategies to internal stakeholders; represent the company in external forums as appropriate.
    • Provide training and educational sessions to employees, customers, specifiers, and partners.
    • Uphold Roseburg's positive public image and core values; demonstrate the highest ethical standards.
  • Perform additional duties assigned to support the company's sustainability objectives.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of related experience in natural resource sustainability or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Passion for elevating and communicating the positive role of sustainable wood products in global markets.
  • Expert and trusted advisor on sustainability issues with the ability to influence across levels (up, down, peers; internal and external).
  • Strong strategic analysis and complex problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent listening, writing, and verbal communications skills; advanced presentation and public speaking abilities.
  • Self-directed, capable of meeting deadlines, and able to work independently; maintains composure in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage a wide variety of audiences (public officials, scientists, operations managers, technical staff, industry leadership, and the general public).
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and outstanding organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload; thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Travel as necessary to company locations, association/policy venues, and events (~30%).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Auditing experience preferred.
  • Experience in wood products/an understanding of the natural resources business
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and compliance programs.
  • Experience with FSC®, SFI®, or PEFC® Certification.
  • LEED® AP or LEED® GA credentialed.
  • Experience in developing EPDs/LCAs, HPDs, and carbon accounting (Scopes 1-3).
  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD) and regulatory affairs.
  • Experience in marketing alignment and sustainability communications
