Senior Manager, Sustainability Program - REMOTE POSITION
JOB SUMMARY
The GBTA Foundation is at the center of a $1.57 trillion global industry at a critical inflection point, uniquely positioned to align corporate travel buyers, suppliers, and partners to drive meaningful, pragmatic progress on climate action and industry transformation.
As the business travel sector faces increasing pressure to decarbonize, operate more sustainably, and adopt shared standards, the need for coordinated, practical, and scalable solutions has never been greater.
The Senior Manager, Sustainability Program plays a critical role in translating this industry ambition into action. This position leads the development and delivery of high-impact sustainability initiatives, tools, and partnerships that enable organizations to measure, manage, and reduce emissions across the business travel ecosystem.
This is a highly visible, externally facing role that requires both strategic thinking and hands-on execution. The Senior Manager will work across a global network of stakeholders - including corporate travel buyers, suppliers, policymakers, industry partners and the GBTA team - to drive alignment, influence outcomes, and accelerate adoption of sustainable practices.
The ideal candidate is a strategic and collaborative program leader who can navigate complex stakeholder environments, build trusted relationships, and translate technical sustainability topics into clear, compelling narratives that drive action. They are comfortable designing new initiatives from the ground up, managing multiple priorities, and contributing to the Foundation's broader mission to advance sustainable, future-ready business travel.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead strategy & programs: Drive development and execution of the GBTA Foundation's sustainability strategy and deliver high-impact global initiatives, research, and industry frameworks.
  • Innovate & generate insight: Identify emerging needs and develop new programs, partnerships, and thought leadership to accelerate industry progress.
  • Develop practical solutions: Create tools, resources, and clear guidance to help organizations measure, manage, and reduce emissions.
  • Engage & align stakeholders: Build strong relationships across members, partners, and industry groups; foster collaboration on shared goals, standards, and advocacy priorities.
  • Represent & activate impact: Serve as a key external voice, support policy and positioning, and lead education, events, and reporting to drive engagement and measurable outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 7-10 years of relevant professional experience in sustainability, consulting, research, policy, or industry/nonprofit roles.
  • Experience working across multi-stakeholder, global environments-ideally in travel or related sectors.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver complex initiatives from concept through implementation.
  • Strong understanding of climate topics (e.g., Scope 3, decarbonization) and ability to translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, senior-level engagement, and strong written/oral communication, paired with solid project management and a proactive, collaborative mindset.
  • Valid Passport.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • Advanced degree, i.e. Masters Degree
  • Experience in business travel, aviation, or corporate travel programs.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, reporting frameworks, or sustainability benchmarks.
  • Experience with advocacy, policy engagement, or standards development.
  • Background in facilitating industry collaboration or working groups.
  • Experience with data analysis, benchmarking, or emissions-related tools.
  • Nonprofit or NGO experience focused on impact-driven work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Remote work environment.
  • Prolonged periods sitting/remaining stationary at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to remain stationary and move for long periods of time, during events.
  • Must be able to work a variety of hours in order to accommodate various meetings and events.

TRAVEL REQUIRED
  • Up to 10% of travel to events and meetings; based on organizational needs. International travel a possibility.
  • Travel to Annual Convention, related events, and meetings, as required.
