Survey Project Manager - Virginia PLS
SGC is seeking an experienced Survey Project Manager with a Virginia PLS license to lead our statewide surveying operations. In this role, you will supervise multiple teams of technical staff, provide professional reviews of work products, and help manage both office and field workload under the direction of the Regional Operations Manager. You will play a critical role in maintaining project schedules and budgets while ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and quality.

Responsibilities of the Survey Project Manager:
  • Conduct survey research, calculations, and computer-aided drafting of topographic maps and plats.
  • Provide detailed written descriptions of land for deeds, leases, and other legal documents in compliance with local, state, federal, and project requirements.
  • Review projects and perform quality assurance checks, reporting progress through the completion of each project.
  • Assist in scheduling field crews and oversee field procedures, as well as the maintenance of survey vehicles and equipment.
  • Engage in business development, including preparing proposals and delivering client presentations.
  • Coordinate with clients, office staff, and field crews to achieve company objectives and project goals.
  • Provide technical expertise and guide survey staff to establish and maintain procedures and quality standards.
  • Manage multiple survey projects and personnel, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets.
  • Monitor and forecast survey workload, staffing, and budgeting needs.

Requirements of the Survey Project Manager:
  • Active Virginia PLS License REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Geomatics, Land Surveying, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution, with a minimum of 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Survey Manager or Project Manager.
  • Advanced knowledge of local survey laws, surveying principles, techniques, and procedures, as well as occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Proficiency in survey processing software, including AutoCAD Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center.
  • Advanced knowledge of field instrumentation, GPS, and robotic total stations is beneficial but not required.
  • To ensure all employees can travel by air when required for business purposes, without causing operational delays, we require that all employees have a valid Real ID or passport. While air travel may not be a regular requirement for all roles, it can occur with limited notice, and all employees must be prepared to comply.
