Position Overview
The Instrument Operator (IO) supports the lead field surveyor by assisting with the setup and operation of survey equipment and data collection tools. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to follow precise instructions, and effective teamwork in varying terrain and field conditions. The IO plays a critical role in ensuring accurate data collection and smooth coordination within the survey crew team.
What Youโll Do
- Ensure that all equipment is in proper working order before leaving the office for job sites
- Operate and maintain survey instruments
- Ensure that the required equipment is in the vehicle prior to leaving the office for job sites
- Ensure that proper field procedures and accuracy requirements, established by the office, are followed and met Communicating with the crew chief in a clear and consistent manner assist crew chief with transporting field equipment to the location necessary for the surveying
- At all times, conduct field surveys in a safe manner in all climates
- Extensive field site travel for data collection and other field operational needs is required
- Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Requirements:
What Youโll Need to Bring With You
- High School diploma or GED and a willingness to learn and understand a variety of field survey equipment
- This is an entry-level position and no experience is required, but if you do have previous experience it is a definite plus
- Valid driverโs license is required
- Ability to learn to operate electronic surveying instruments, along with capability for using a computer and other software
- OSHA 10 (construction safety) is helpful along with any survey or civil technology coursework
- Desire to obtain CST (Certified Survey Technician) Level I once applicable skills/experience has been acquired is strongly encouraged and supported for professional growth
