Sabine Surveyors is currently seeking a Staff Surveyor/Auditor in the Port Arthur, TX area!

About us

Sabine Surveyors isa full-service marine surveying and consulting company founded in 1968. Our services include bulk and project cargo surveys, hull and machinery surveys, damage surveys, P&I surveys, on-hire, and off-hire bunker and/or vessel condition surveys, vessel appraisals, vessel audits, management audits, shipyard representation services, CRF 46 Subchapter M Compliance services and vendor audits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performing marine surveysand/or auditsin the field as directed by the Area Manageror Vice Presidentand as required by the company’s ISO Qualityand EnvironmentalProcedures.
  • Ensuring thetimelyflow of information to/from clients throughout the surveyand/orauditprocess in the field.Acknowledging receipt of assignment to clientwhendesignated, and ensuringpreliminaryadvice is prepared andsubmittedafter completion offieldworkwhen required.
  • Producingandsubmittingconcise, technically,and grammatically correct surveyand/or auditreports based on theappropriate reporttemplatein line with Companyprocedures, schedules,andcustomers’ requirements.
  • Assisting the Area Manager withthehandling of customer complaints and adjustment of invoices.
  • Recognizing potential new business and bringing such to the attention of management.
  • Promoting company services in the marine industry including visiting clients andparticipatingin industry activities.
  • Following the company’s Health, Safety, Security&Environmental Manual requirements, includingparticipating inmonthly safety meetings.
  • Pursuing personal development through in-house training,appropriate externaltraining opportunities,and joining professional organizations.
  • Assistingwith the management and training ofmore junior personnel.
  • Ensuringthat proper PPE is maintained and worn at all times.
  • Ensuringall required equipment is calibrated and in good working orderand recordsmaintainedas per our Qualityand EnvironmentalProcedures.
  • Obtainingproper credentials to enter terminals, docks, andjob sitesasappropriate,andmaintainingrecords as required by Company procedures.
Required Education & Experience:
  • College graduate, maritime college preferred,ortheequivalent time inthemarine industry - five(5)years sea-going experience in a certificated position, or five(5)years’ experience in marine surveying field, or five(5)years of comparable marine experience.
  • Membership ofNAMSGlobalispreferred but notrequired.
  • Report and technical writing skills willbe a consideration.
  • Current valid Transportation Worker’s Identification Credential (TWIC)
Working Conditions:
  • Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, wet, dusty, etc.
  • Mustwear hearing,eye,andhead protection,and properPersonal Protective Equipment (PPE)whenrequired.
  • Some climbing (40’or higher, some unprotected), bending, stooping, and lifting (up to50pounds)areinvolved.
  • Workingwith hot andsometimes hazardous materials.
  • Work on marine vessels or in shipyard settings, walking over uneven surfaces.
  • Enter roundmanholeswith inside diameters of 18”, and other internally confined spaces.
  • Use of traverse gangways, ladders,and scaffolding at varying heights.
  • Examiningcargo, including photographing,and accessing difficult areas.
  • Available/On call 24 hours, 7 days a week,365 daysa year.
