Surgical technician interns are students or recent graduates who are gaining hands-on experience in surgical technology under supervision in a clinical setting. They assist surgical teams by preparing operating rooms, sterilizing equipment, and helping with procedures, all while learning on the job. This internship is a key part of their training, allowing them to develop essential skills and knowledge needed to become certified surgical technologists. Their role is vital for ensuring surgeries are conducted efficiently and safely.

What are the typical responsibilities for a surgical technician intern during a standard surgical procedure?

As a Surgical Technician Intern, you will usually assist in preparing the operating room, ensuring all necessary instruments and supplies are sterile and available. During procedures, you may be responsible for passing instruments to surgeons, maintaining a sterile field, and anticipating the needs of the surgical team. After surgery, you’ll help with instrument counts and cleanup. Interns typically work under the close supervision of experienced surgical technologists and nurses, which provides a valuable learning environment and hands-on experience.
