Job Description
Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking a casual, as needed Surgical Tech Extern to work in our Operating Room.
The incumbent will be responsible for helping to set the OR rooms up, ensuring equipment and supplies are available and in working order, assisting with patient positioning, surgical prep, assisting the surgical tech and surgeon throughout the procedure, assists with maintaining a sterile field, assists with room turnover, and proper instrument and equipment care post procedure. This position requires compliance to all hospital policies and procedures, including maintaining all competencies necessary to provide care to our patients ranging from neonate to geriatric.
The surgical tech will provide additional support including but not limited to:
  • Passing instruments for scheduled surgical procedures.
  • Hold retractors to allow for better visualization of the surgical wound/field.
  • Provide Robotic support in the role of uterine manipulator.
  • Improve efficiency with room turnover by providing additional support.
  • Assist the surgeon as needed throughout the procedure, as outlined in the surgical scrub job description.
  • Assist with patient transport, prep & proper positioning and padding for the safety of our patients.

Job Requirements
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technologists program.
    • Successfully completed the first year of the surgical tech program.
  • Must be actively pursuing Surgical Technologist Diploma and/or Certification.
