Compensation: $31.41 - $38.42 per hour

Job Overview

The Surgical Technician in the obstetrics department plays a vital role in supporting the surgical team during procedures such as cesarean sections and other gynecological surgeries. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining a sterile environment, passing instruments, and ensuring that all surgical equipment is ready and operational. Additionally, this position involves assisting with routine patient care tasks under the guidance of nurses and physicians within the labor and delivery unit.

Qualifications
  • Required:
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Completion of a Surgical Technician training program
  • Preferred:
    • At least 1 year of experience in a surgical environment; experience in labor and delivery is highly preferred
Certifications and Licenses
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from the Association of Surgical Technologists (NBSTSA) is required
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory
Essential Functions
  • Prepare the operating room for cesarean sections and other OB/GYN procedures by arranging surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and necessary supplies
  • Scrub in and uphold aseptic techniques during surgical operations
  • Anticipate the surgical team's needs by passing instruments, sutures, and supplies throughout the procedure
  • Assist in positioning, prepping, and draping patients
  • Conduct counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments with the RN in accordance with hospital protocols before, during, and after surgery
  • Ensure proper handling and care of surgical specimens
  • Decontaminate, clean, and restock surgical instruments and supplies post-procedure
  • Provide assistance in emergency situations, including stat cesarean sections and postpartum hemorrhages
  • Maintain proficiency in neonatal resuscitation equipment
  • Support general patient care tasks such as monitoring vital signs, transporting patients, and assisting with hygiene as needed
  • Stock labor rooms, operating rooms, and supply carts to ensure adequate availability of supplies
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and participate in mandatory staff meetings and training sessions
Scheduling Requirements
  • Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Alternating weekends
  • Full-time position with 36 standard hours per week
