Job description

Overview

The Surgical Technologist is to anticipate and assist in all surgical procedures. Work with the RN in the OR to ensure a sterile environment and provide safe care to the surgical patient.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Surgeon during the procedure
  • Collaborate with the circulating nurse to ensure all instruments, equipment and supplies are in the Operating Room for the specified case
  • Count instruments with Circulating RN as per protocol
  • Maintain sterile technique
  • Have the ability to lift heavy instrument trays
  • Work in a team environment and with difficult personalities
  • Maintain surgical instruments and report any defects
Requirements
  • High School Required
  • Aware of names of surgical instruments and how they are utilized
  • Know how to properly hand off surgical instruments
  • Count surgical instruments efficiently
  • Completion of Certified Surgical Technician program and certified as per NYS requirements, or meet NYS requirements
