Job description

Premier Medical Resources is looking for Surgery Scheduling Coordinator to join our team!
The Surgery Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for checking patient orders, documents received and understanding patient needs to successfully organize and schedule procedures accordingly and promptly. The Surgery Scheduling Coordinator will schedule hospital procedures consistent with the patient's diagnosis and procedure request.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Communicates with all appropriate parties regarding patient and surgery
• Ensures pre-op orders and H&P is obtained
• Verifies if all authorizations have been obtained prior to scheduling surgery
• Schedules and/or reschedules patient follow-ups and surgery
• Coordinates with anesthesia provider to confirm case coverage
• Informs and provides patient with necessary information and instructions prior to surgery date
• Follows-up on all Canceled or No-Show Patients
• Works closely with OR Manager/Charge nurse to avoid equipment/supply conflict
• Moves patients through appointments as scheduled
• Answers telephone and deal with inquiries
• Updates patients' information into database
• Scans and files into patient docs on the EMR, patients paper chart, or computer folder (as applicable)
• Manages filing and record keeping activities
• Alerts Administration of new physicians scheduled procedures
• Updates daily log of all patients who have confirmed surgeries
• Submits information to verification department for pre-authorization
• Ensures completeness and accuracy of patients' forms
• Reports statistics as required
• Protects patient and family privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of patient records in accordance to policy
and procedure and HIPAA requirements
• Performs other related duties as assigned to support the hospital
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology
• Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and eCW
• Strong attention to detail: being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks
• Ability to work independently by guiding oneself with little or no supervision and depending one oneself to get things done
• Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette with patients, employees, and the public
• Ability to communicate professionally with patients
• Energetic with a desire to learn and develop new skills
• Utilization of clinical knowledge to schedule appropriate procedures/surgeries per provider's orders.
• Ability to respond to both written and oral correspondence regarding scheduling changes/cancellations in a timely, accurate manner.
• Demonstrate organization and ability to manage demanding workloads with accuracy.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School Diploma or GED
• One (1) year experience in medical office scheduling setting
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of hire.
