Job Opportunity: Physician Assistant โ€“ General Surgery

Location: Dothan, Alabama Schedule: Full-Time | Hospital-Based Role | Surgical & Perioperative Care

This opportunity is with a large, well-established regional health system that serves communities across southeastern Alabama, southwest Georgia, and parts of the Florida Panhandle. The organization offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services, including advanced surgical care, trauma services, emergency medicine, cardiology, orthopedics, and women's health. The health system is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant with a strong background in General Surgery to join its surgical team in Dothan, Alabama. This role includes a combination of operating room first assist, inpatient rounding, and preoperative/postoperative patient management. You will work closely with surgeons, residents, PAs, RNs, and surgical techs in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Surgical experience is required โ€” inpatient, OR, and procedural exposure strongly preferred.

Essential Position Responsibilities
  • Serve as first assist during general surgery procedures in the operating room
  • Provide comprehensive preoperative and postoperative care, including hospital rounding
  • Conduct patient evaluations, history and physicals, and perioperative assessments
  • Manage surgical consults and coordinate care plans with the attending surgeon
  • Perform bedside procedures as appropriate (e.g., wound care, drain removal, suturing, staple removal)
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and families
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary care teams to ensure optimal surgical outcomes
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, workflow optimization, and patient safety efforts
Qualifications Education
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
Licensure & Certification
  • Board-Certified Physician Assistant
  • Active Alabama PA license or eligibility to obtain
  • BLS and ACLS certifications (or willingness to obtain)
Experience
  • Minimum 1โ€“2 years of surgical experience required
  • Prior experience in general surgery, surgical subspecialties, or hospital-based roles strongly preferred
