Job description

Urologic Staff Surgeon

Join a dedicated team within the Surgical Care Service at the Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS). The Urologic Staff Surgeon routinely performs outpatient and inpatient Urologic surgery examinations, determines diagnoses, and initiates treatments based on Urologic surgery education and standards of care. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Position duties for an Urologic Staff Surgeon at VA Phoenix include but are not limited to the following:

  • Diagnose and treat medical and surgical disorders using the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care.
  • Responsible for initial evaluation and overall workups, history & physicals, and admission of Urologic surgery patients as needed.
  • Clinical duties include but are not limited to Operating Room (experience in wide variety of standard Urologic surgical procedures and operations including cystoscopy and fiberoptic cystoscopy), in-patient rounds, Emergency Room and Outpatient Clinics. The Urologic surgeon will be able to perform a wide variety of Urologic surgical procedures.
  • May supervise residents as well as medical students who rotate through the Urologic Surgery Service.
  • Will participate in Urologic surgery night call and perform emergency surgical procedures.
  • Responsible for providing patients with education concerning their disease state and treatment regimen.
  • Will complete all electronic, clinical, daily charting and documentation required by the Medical Center in a timely manner as appropriate.
  • Consult with Medical Center staff on many patient care issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) Authorized: This position is eligible for EDRP, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

CME: Possible $1,000-$2,500 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:00am-3:30pm
