Summary
Works under the direction of Ambulatory Surgery Manager to coordinate pre-surgical care for patients and clerical assistance for Surgical Services.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Answers telephone, provides information to callers, routes calls to appropriate person and places outgoing calls for Ambulatory Surgery.
  • Provides assistance/direction to incoming scheduled patients and nursing staff for Ambulatory Surgery.
  • Assists with cleanliness of ambulatory patient areas, directs housekeeping as needed.
  • Works in collaboration with Pre-Op Clinic and Pre-Admit Nurse to coordinate pre-surgical care for patients.
  • Collects and scans into electronic medical record results of ordered diagnostic, lab work, or other pertinent patient information.
  • Communicate to patients outstanding necessary diagnostic and lab work needing to be completed prior to procedure.
  • Assists and performs basic scheduling for surgery and endoscopy under the direction of the Scheduling/Business Manager.
  • Assists and performs basic charge entry functions under the direction of the Scheduling/Business Manager.
  • Creates, edits and maintains pre-op and discharge instructions and other documents.
  • Maintains department Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) in both the web-based MSDS program and the hard-copy binder.
  • Requests, distributes and documents radiation badges.
  • Provides clerical assistance for Surgical Services Department leadership.
  • Creates department reports, memos, and other communications under direction of department leadership.
  • Creates forms for Surgical Services as needed.
  • Documents and records department and other meeting minutes.
  • Orders department office supplies utilizing established parameters for cost-containment.
  • Generates reports for other departments as needed.
  • Submits work orders for equipment repairs, plant ops and IT requests.
  • Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
  • Complies with System policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
