Support Counselor Jobs in Florida (NOW HIRING)

For more than 40 years, Big Bend Hospice (BBH) has proudly served as the community's Hometown Hospice, providing compassionate care and support to individuals and families throughout the Big Bend region. Guided by our core values of integrity, compassion, and accountability, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Grief Support Counselor to join our dedicated Bereavement Team.

As a Grief Support Counselor, you'll have the opportunity to:

• Support children, teens, adults, and families through the grieving process
• Facilitate meaningful support groups, workshops, and community programs

• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals
• Help shape bereavement services that provide hope, healing, and connection
• Make a tangible difference in the lives of those experiencing loss

We're searching for a compassionate, energetic professional who is passionate about helping others heal. The ideal candidate thrives in a flexible, relationship-centered role and is comfortable providing grief support in a variety of settings throughout Leon County and surrounding communities.

You bring strong clinical skills, experience working with youth and adults, and a commitment to delivering exceptional care while honoring the dignity and unique needs of every individual served.

• Provide grief counseling, crisis intervention, psychoeducation, and referrals to individuals and families before and after a hospice patient's death
• Conduct bereavement risk assessments and follow-up services according to organizational guidelines
• Offer short-term counseling and ongoing grief support to hospice families and community members
• Provide support through in-person and telephone counseling

• Facilitate school-based grief support groups and youth bereavement programs
• Support children's grief camps, remembrance events, and holiday programs
• Help youth and families build healthy coping strategies and resilience following loss

• Plan and lead grief support groups and bereavement events
• Deliver educational presentations to hospice staff, schools, community organizations, and healthcare partners
• Serve as a community resource and liaison for grief and bereavement services

• Participate in care planning and Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) meetings
• Provide clinical insight regarding grief, bereavement, and family coping
• Support hospice staff and volunteers through education and grief-related consultation

• Maintain timely, accurate documentation
• Attend meetings, training programs, workshops, and clinical supervision
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and committee work
• Maintain professional licensure and continuing education requirements

• Master's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, or a related field
• Required: Experience counseling youth
• Minimum of two (2) years of clinical counseling experience
• LCSW preferred

• Strong clinical counseling and assessment skills
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to build trust and rapport with clients of all ages
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
• Knowledge of professional standards, ethics, and regulations
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic medical record systems
• Demonstrated compassion, professionalism, and confidentiality

Schedule:

• Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required

Travel:

• This is an in-person, community-based role
• Approximately 25%–50% travel throughout Leon County and surrounding counties
• Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and current auto insurance required
